LATE ARRIVAL or EARLY DEPARTURE
If your child is
going to arrive late or depart early you can use the digital attendance
form. It is linked here. Fill out the form. At the bottom of the form, where it says
“Anything Else” please put the reason why.
(If someone other than a person listed in the child’s emergency contacts
is picking your child up early, please write “I give permission to (name of
person) to pick up (student’s name) for (reason). We will ask to view a photo ID when that
person arrives to school. We cannot allow a student to leave with
someone who is not on their emergency contacts without a written note from the
parent. This is MCPS policy.
You may also send
your child in with a hand-written note, signed by you for a late-arrival or an
early departure. Sometimes doctors and dentists will generate notes for you as
well. The parent does not need to escort a child into the building if s/he has
a signed note. S/he should come to the
main office upon arrival.
If s/he is
departing early from school, s/he should bring the note to the office before

There is a direct relationship between
school attendance and student achievement.
Students are to attend every scheduled class, on time, each day unless
there is a legitimate reason for an absence.
The school day begins at 7:54 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m.
Legitimate reasons for a student
absence, tardiness and dismissals are:
Certified illness of the student
Physical and mental incapacity
Work or activity accepted by school
Death in immediate family
Vacations are not an excused
absence. The principal may issue an exception in extraordinary
circumstances. Administrators may
approve an absence at least one week in advance. It is the student’s responsibility to gather
any assignments they will be missing.
A physician’s note is REQUIRED if a
student is absent 5 days or more.
The Maryland State Department of
Education, Maryland Student Records System Manual, has revised its definition
of full and half-day attendance. Therefore, “a student is counted present for a
full day if the student is in attendance for at least two (2) hours of the
school day, but less than four (4) hours. All information concerning attendance
policies and procedures and a sample absence note, which be downloaded, can be
