Magruder High School Student Assistance Program
The goal of the Student Assistance Program (SAP) is to identify adolescents whose behavior, attendance, or grades indicate that they may have problems related to alcohol, drug use, violence, or other risky behavior. Through the different steps that comprise SAP, these at-risk adolescents are referred for a professional assessment and directed to appropriate services.
How Does SAP work?
Any individual (school staff member, parent, community member, or student) may express concern for a student by contacting a member of the SAP team or by completing a Concern Form and placing it in a SAP referral box. These boxes are located in the Health Room, Media Center and Career Center at Magruder. Students may even refer themselves!
A member of the SAP team then collects data from teachers and other school staff. This data is analyzed to determine any possible indicators of drug/alcohol use or violence, such as drop in grades, increase in absences, frequent visits to the nurse, or behavior problems.
If there aren't sufficient indicators of a problem, the matter is dropped and all the information is destroyed. If, however, the data collected indicates the need for further assessment, the information is then shared with the student's parent(s)/guardian(s) who are then encouraged to participate in the intervention process. Any information concerning who made the original referral is strictly confidential. Referrals may be submitted without revealing the name of the concerned person
