English

6th, 7th, and 8th grade English classes are implementing the Core Knowledge Language Arts- CKLA curriculum. Students have engaged with this curriculum in elementary school. (CKLA) is a comprehensive, K-5 curriculum that focuses on building foundational literacy skills alongside rich content knowledge across various subjects. CKLA is designed to be a coherent and cumulative program, with a strong emphasis on the Science of Reading, which emphasizes the importance of foundational skills and content knowledge in literacy development.

Reading

Developmental Reading
(EBLI) Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction is an effective, efficient, systematic, research-aligned, revolutionary system of literacy instruction for learners of all ages and ability levels. It is delivered to teachers via our online platform through ETSL: EBLI Teacher Training and Student Learning. EBLI’s decoding instruction leads with speech, which is biologically primary (natural) while traditional phonics instruction leads with print, which is biologically secondary (needs to be taught). Because almost all students enter school with the ability to speak, teaching reading, spelling, and writing from a speech-first approach with EBLI accelerates their literacy acquisition or remediation.

Really Great Reading HD Word is a set of lessons that efficiently teaches the foundational skills that lead to strong decoding and fluent reading. The lessons systematically teach the essential phonics structures that unlock the English code in both simple and complex words. The focus of HD Word is word study (phonics and phonemic awareness), and there is a high rate of transfer to students' skills in other areas of reading,

Orton Gillingham (OG) Morphology Orton Gillingham’s primary focus is multi-sensory instruction to explicitly teach phonemic awareness, the alphabetic principle, syllabication patterns for decoding and encoding, sight words, vocabulary fluency, and comprehension.

Orton Gillingham Comprehensive Plus - the primary focus is delivering explicit, systematic, and sequential multi-sensory instruction to teach phonemic awareness and phonics (decoding and encoding) and to build fluency in reading words in isolation and within context. In addition to the explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics, there are also additional reading components that can be built into the lessons: high frequency words, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and high frequency words.
