Principal's Weekly Message

CHS Seal

A message from Principal Edward Owusu

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

It's a busy 5 day week of learning and activities at CHS! May 1st is National College and Career Signing Day for Seniors. Testing season kicks into high gear for the next two weeks. Check daily schedules for class instruction and be prepared. Although we do not have a delayed opening schedule, only students who will be testing are expected to attend. Any student who does not participate in testing will report to the cafeteria for study hall and student service learning (SSL) opportunities for the duration of testing. Attendance in class after testing is MANDATORY. We celebrate Prom Friday and AfterProm into Saturday morning. SAFETY IS A PRIORITY. In looking ahead, sports teams look to make final season games and playoffs. Check out the 5th annual Jacob Dennis Memorial Car Show on Saturday at CHS. Please see the rest of the important information in this newsletter. (Please click this link to see our weekly newsletter.)

SENIORS - Class of 2023

Required Testing:

Monday, May 1st will begin testing for AP Exams as well as state required MCAP testing, followed by Grade 9 MAP testing starting on May 8th. Class instruction will begin later in the morning on designated days (see links and images).

A picture of the schedules is below. Detailed information about each test is here:
AP TESTING INFORMATION ; MCAP Testing Information;
COMMUNITY MAP Testing Memo.

Students may locate their ID number to determine testing status and location.

  • To determine if your child needs to test for MCAP please click this link and search for their MCPS student ID number. Use this link for room locations.
  • Please prepare for your AP Exam by reviewing THESE SLIDES of information for students and by checking THIS TESTING ROSTER to find your testing locations, dates, and times. (Use Ctrl+F to search for your ID number!)
  • 9th Grade students may find their MAP testing location HERE.

Tickets for the Junior/Senior Prom are on sale NOW! Monday 5/1/23 Juniors and Seniors that purchased tickets online may pick them up with ID. Tickets will then go on sale for in-person purchase, May 2-3, in the morning and during lunch. Although tickets were sold in the auditorium lobby in the past, we are moving ticket sales and distribution to the gym lobby so we do not disturb AP testing.

Some info: Prom season is upon us and the junior class has been hard at work planning and organizing this year's prom. The theme is "A Night Amongst the Stars" and it's going to be held at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Gaithersburg, on May 5 from 7-11 pm.

PROM SAFETY - Parents - Check out this VIDEO and this week prior to the prom talk to your son or daughter:

  • Reinforce that you love your teen, and that your primary concern is their safety
  • Ask your teenager if he/she has any concerns or apprehensions about prom night
  • Ask if there are any post prom celebrations that have been planned
  • Reassure your teenager that you understand prom night pressures and fears and talk about them
  • Ask your teen to think about these issues and indicate that you would like to continue the discussion

URGENT - HELP NEEDED FOR AFTERPROM - Prom is only days away & THE CHS PTSA DESPERATELY NEEDS YOUR HELP to make After Prom a success for our students!! Our fundraising levels are well short of last year, and we are at risk of having to downsize our event if we do not reach our goal & get parent donations & volunteers. Last year’s FREE event was attended by around 400 students, so PLEASE help us keep this amazing tradition alive! ALL grade level parents’ help & support is appreciated…it takes a village to keep our teens safe!

12th Grade Students and Families.

Congratulations on being accepted to colleges and receiving scholarships. After you graduate from CHS, where will you attend college? You can notify us about your application results, scholarships, and where to send your final transcript by clicking this link.

Linked below are the slides that I ask you and your family review. In addition, links are provided to the Senior Letter that has been updated with new information as well as other important links that are needed as we approach the end of the year. I look forward to celebrating all the activities that are upcoming!
