A message from Principal Edward Owusu

Clarksburg High School Students, Staff, and Families,

This week is a full 5 day week as we start the 3rd Marking Period and new semester. Monday we begin in Homeroom (Schedule) and students will also receive new schedules and credit summary information. Students may also sign up for Summer Rise Internships. APPS Student Showcases, Seal of Biliteracy testing, and Athletics Championships (Swim/Dive and Poms) also begin this week. Please see the important information in this newsletter. (Please click this link to see our weekly newsletter.)

Registration for the Spring Athletic Season is open. Registration is completed through ParentVUE and can be found under the “Online Registration” tab from the main screen. Tryouts/practices begin on Wednesday March 1 and are only open to registered and approved to tryout with a current physical on file.

Spring Sports are: Baseball (V & JV); Boys & Girls Lacrosse (V & JV); Softball (V & JV); Allied Softball (starts 3/13); Boys & Girls Tennis; Boys & Girls Track & Field and Boys & Coed Volleyball. Additional information about registration can be found on our athletics website at:

As an athletics reminder CHS Basketball games have moved to Tier 1. This means student school identification cards are required for students, and only students at participating event schools may attend games alone. Students under age 18 may attend games with an adult if they attend another non participating school. Adult must stay for duration of the game.

MCPS is hosting an in-person job fair for teachers from 5–7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30. The largest and most diverse school system in Maryland, MCPS offers competitive compensation and benefit packages. The system is looking for highly qualified professionals to join its workforce as classroom teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. Details HERE.

Incoming grade 9 students and families currently in middle school should see this registration information: Incoming 9th Grade Registration Materials

As we now settle into the middle of the winter weather season, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is improving its process for informing the community when weather requires an operational status change and when a closure might justify a shift to virtual instruction. When it is determined that conditions are unsafe for students and staff, we have six operational status options, which will now be reported by easy-to-understand, color-coded messages. In this weekly message you will find information about Yearbook Advertising, upcoming visits from higher education representatives in our College & Career Center, athletics schedules, and more.

As always, thank you for your continued support and trust.
