General Music
The music program at CCES is aligned with National and State Music Education Standards. The study of music assists in the acquisition of 21st Century Skills. The cooperative learning setting of music ensembles allows students to developboth individuallyand as members ofa larger community. The creativity inherent in the creation or interpretation ofa musical selection fosters creative thinking and problem solving strategies that permeate other facets of life. We encourage and celebrate the personal expression within every child.

Sam Elson, General Music Teacher I am honored to be a member of the Chevy Chase Cheetah Family. Since earning my bachelors degree in Music Education and my masters degree in Supervision and Evaluation, I have enjoyed a career spanning more than 35 years, including the first ten years as an instrumental music teacher (band director) and a school administrator for the next 20 years. After 16 of those years as an elementary school principal, I was thrilled to return to my first love: teaching music! I love sharing the joy of music with our Cheetah students, specifically striving to impart musical knowledge and life skills that will help our students to be successful for many years to come. When I’m not at CCES, I love spending time with my wonderful wife (whom I met when we were 12 years old) and our three grown kids. Both professionally and personally, I consider myself the Luckiest Man on Earth. GO CHEETAHS!
