The Steve Curtis 1989 Memorial Scholarship
This generous scholarship is open to graduating Wootton Seniors. Applicants should plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited community college, or 4-year institution for the entirety of the upcoming school year.
The Steve Curtis 1989 Memorial Scholarship is being offered to honor the memory of Steve Curtis, a proud graduate of Wootton High school. Steve loved the Wootton community and cherished the lifetime friends he made there. Wootton provided Steve with a solid academic foundation, and a passion for math and STEM. At Wootton, he learned that with hard work, interest, and dedication that anything was possible. His “dream school” was the University of Michigan, and his “dream major” was Electrical Engineering. Steve went on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan, graduating with High Honors.
After working for a few years, Steve decided to pursue a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He was a Principal Design Engineer for Intel Corporation for many years and highly regarded by his colleagues as a technical expert in the field. He was a loyal friend, with a great sense of humor, a problem solver, and the ability to make everyone feel like their contributions mattered.
Criteria: All applicants will be asked to provide a
1) Personal statement describing the impact that Wootton has had on his/her life and how he/she plans to use their high school experiences in their future educational goals. Alternatively, you can provide an answer to a question you submitted for a college essay.
2) A one-page resume. The top applicants will be invited to participate in an informal interview.
Additional Criteria:
- Senior in high school
- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Intend to pursue STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
- Community Service and/or extracurricular activities
Award: One undergraduate award of $1989 will be awarded. This is a one-time award.
