On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously adopted the MCPS Future Ready, the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). The strategic plan represents an important new chapter and a clear vision for student and staff success. MCPS must lead, not follow.

Rooted in the district’s commitment to students to have the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to be successful in their futures, the new whole-district strategic plan provides not only a new but also a clear roadmap for where MCPS needs to be and how it will get there. The plan defines four objectives fundamental to the work of a successful school system and identifies measurements to be able to monitor progress over the next five years. The strategic plan also provides a Student Future Ready Framework that outlines a portfolio of skills students need to have to be successful in their future and those skills are in the areas of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, community impact and well-being.

Four Strategic Goals Guide the Plan:

1. Academic Excellence – All students will demonstrate high levels of academic achievement and growth.
2. Future Ready Graduates – Ensure meaningful post-secondary outcomes for all students.
3. Positive, Safe and Effective – Ensure safe, welcoming and inclusive learning and work environments through positive climate and effective operations.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback on our new reimagined Vision (V), Mission (M), and Core Values (CV). As a reminder, we partnered with the MCPS Equity Initiatives Unit to develop a new equity definition that reflects our commitment to each student. Through this process, we recognized the need to reimagine our Vision (V), Mission (M), and Core Values (CV) to ensure they align with our equity-centered work and the evolving needs of our school community.

Our instructional vision keeps us grounded in what matters most—the whole child. By focusing on student discourse, scaffolding, differentiation, and future readiness, we ensure each Patriot has the skills, confidence, and support to thrive today and lead tomorrow.
