Dear Patriot Parent/Caregiver of 10th,  11th, and 12th grade  Student(s),

On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will offer the SAT free of charge to all Grade 11 students at each local high school. Grade 10 and 12 students may opt into the assessment at a cost. The fee is $41.00 and can be paid at school cash online. Students in 11th grade are automatically registered for the exam.

Registration for 10th and 12th graders closes Wednesday, February 12, 2025. After this date, students can no longer register.  Your payment is your registration.

The SAT is an essential measure of each student’s readiness for college and careers that many colleges and universities use in the admissions process. Offering the SAT during the school day helps to remove barriers associated with college entrance examinations and ensures equitable access to these critical steps to college and career readiness.

Before the SAT administration, there is a Digital Readiness Check that serves two main purposes. First, information about your child will be provided to the College Board (by the provider of the SAT), such as name, school, state, student ID, grade, gender, and date of birth. In addition, MCPS shares information with the College Board regarding students who qualify for a fee waiver, which is utilized solely for that purpose and is not otherwise tracked or maintained by the College Board.

Second, with your consent, your child will be able to participate in the optional Student Survey. The College Board gives students and families complete discretion regarding any voluntary information they provide as part of the Student Survey. Information is gathered for group reporting, analysis to ensure the exams are fair for all groups, connecting your child with potential colleges or scholarship opportunities, and for research.

To provide consent for your child to participate in the optional Student Survey, you must return a signed consent form before the Digital Readiness Check. Whether or not you consent for your child to participate in the optional Student Survey, your child will still participate in SAT School Day.
