Message from the Principal
Dear Wootton Community,
I certainly hope the start of summer is going well! This will be my final update of the 2021-22 school year as I will be transitioning to my new position effective July 1st. As previously communicated, Mr. Brad Rohner will serve as the acting principal from July 1st until the new principal is announced on July 12th. Mr. Rohner just recently served as a principal intern at Wootton, so the community is in very capable hands during this transition!
We will be taking a break from the weekly updates this summer; the weekly updates will resume in August. Also, please note the transition to our summer hours. The school will be open from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm Monday through Friday, with a lunch break from 12:00 - 1:00 pm. Not all staff work over the summer, I encourage you to reach out via email or call the staff member prior to scheduling a visit.
As a reminder, the first day of school for all students is Monday, August 29th! And to our incoming freshmen class and students new to Wootton: Welcome! There will be opportunities for orientations and tours prior to the first day of school; however, please mark your calendars now for the new student orientation that is scheduled for Thursday, August 25th in the morning! All freshmen and upperclassmen NEW to Wootton are welcome and encouraged to attend orientation on August 25th. Additionally, there are opportunities for student tours this summer. Please see below for more information regarding school tours.
It has been a pleasure working with the Wootton community! Thank you for your engagement, your support, and all the ways you contribute to make Wootton the great place it is. I hope you have a fantastic summer.

Summer Office Hours

Athletic News from Mr. Al Lightsey
Registration Process for Fall Athletics: Fall SY2022-23 Athletics Online Registration
The ParentVUE portal for registration will open on Monday, July 11 at 12:00 noon.
Tryouts for all fall sports will officially begin on Wednesday, August 10th for athletes interested in participating in JV and Varsity Football, Boys' and Girls' Cross Country, JV and Varsity Field Hockey, Golf, Boys' and Girls' JV and Varsity Soccer, Cheerleading, Poms and JV and Varsity Girls Volleyball. Tryout information, including times and locations as well as all registration information, is posted on our athletics website woottonsports.com. If you have additional questions please reach out to our Athletic Specialist Alton Lightsey, alton_l_lightsey@mcpsmd.org.
Radon Testing Results
Please see the letter attached below. The test results indicate that radon levels continue to be below the action level of 4.0 picocuries per liter of air (pCi/L), which is recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
COVID Reporting Form
Students participating in any MCPS summer program should still report positive COVID-19 cases at MCPS COVID-19 Reporting Form. You may also call if you are not able to submit the information electronically.
