Morning Announcements - 4/26/18

 Calling all Poets! Get ready for Open Mic! In honor of National Poetry Month, the Media Center is sponsoring an “Open Mic,” aka Poetry Slam. The slam was originally scheduled for this Thursday, April 26th during lunch in the Media Center but has been postponed to a later date. Please listen to the morning announcements to find out the new date.

If you are still interested in: “kicking some knowledge” or “spitting some fire” AKA reading, reciting, signing (ASL), or rapping your original works or a favorite poem, please see Media Staff to sign up! You will also need to submit a copy of the poetry you plan to use for the event! Again, the open mic Poetry slam will be rescheduled for a later date. Thank You! And get ready to slam!

 

Attention students!  The Montgomery County Board of Elections will be set up in the cafeteria hallway during lunch on May 1st, May 2nd and May 3rd.  PLEASE register to vote AND you can volunteer to help during election day and earn $210 OR earn 25 SSL hours!  Visit the voter registration table on May 1st, 2nd or 3rd!  DON’T’ MISS IT!

Last day of school for seniors is May 25th

Graduation is 2:30 on May 30th at DAR. No school for students.

Last day of school is June 15th.

 

The school store will be open this Friday, April 27th during lunch! Stop by and pick up some new spirit wear just in time for spring. This week only: hoodies and sweatpants on sale for $25 (regularly $30).

 

Powderpuff Pinnies are here! If you are playing in the powderpuff football game after school on Monday, April 30th come pick up your Powderpuff Pinnie in Room 101 on Thursday, April 26th and Friday, April 27th at lunch.

 

The Arts Department is pleased to announce the Festival of the Arts from Tuesday, May 1st through Thursday, May 3rd from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.  The Festival is a showcase for the Wootton Arts and features live performances in the auditorium and the Commons by art students in Drama, Dance, Instrumental Music and Chorus. There will be a department-wide Art exhibit featuring drawings, painting, sculptures, and photography in the main gym and much, much more.  Come join the excitement!  See you there!

 

Attention all seniors – the deadline to apply for Dr. Doran’s Scholarship has been extended to May 7th.  Please make sure to have all entries submitted by Monday, May 7th.

 

Free food, games and fun! Come out and support your Boys and Girls Lacrosse Teams! Community Day is this Saturday, April 28, 11 am to 1 pm. All students, Family and friends are welcome. Hope to see you there!

Attention all current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders:  The deadline for enrolling in the 2018 Summer Institute program is NEXT Tuesday, May 1st.  Submit your registration forms in as soon as possible to Ms. Cunningham in room 41.  Please note that the Honors Health classes are full for first session and there is a waitlist for second session.   There is still plenty of room in Honors Geometry A/B, Research Project, Junior seminar, writing the college essay, Intro to AP NSL/US History, and the SAT/ACT prep classes.  Check it all out on the Wootton website.

 

Pick up your Junior Banquet tickets TODAY during lunch in the hallway outside the cafeteria. You will need a picture ID to get your ticket, and you will also need a picture ID to get into the dance on Friday night. Remember that you need to attend all of your classes on Friday, April 27th to be able to go to the banquet, unless you have a doctor’s note or a previously excused absence.

 

If you missed buying your Junior Banquet ticket online, you may purchase your ticket for $45 cash at the financial office TODAY. Bring your picture ID to make the purchase. Don’t miss out on the dinner and dancing!

 

Attention all students: If you did not receive your report card, you can pick it up in the main office until Friday, April 27th.

 

Seniors: remember our May 4th senior picnic is FREE, but you still have to register online for it. The final day to register is TODAY. So, if you haven’t done it yet, go to the Wootton online store and register for the senior picnic today!

 

Attention NHS Seniors: Remember to buy your NHS stoles on the Wootton online store TODAY. Order now!

 

Attention science lovers! If you are a rising junior or senior and are interested in applying to the Science National Honors Society, please pick up your application in Mr. Thompson’s office, room 204. Please complete the application and turn it in to Mr. Thompson’s room 204 by May 4, 2018.

 

This is a reminder to SENIORS that we have one more graduation parent meeting scheduled in April. Your parents need to attend ONLY ONE meeting. The meeting is mandatory so you can get your graduation tickets. We will review graduation rehearsal, handicap seating, logistical issues, and of course, hand out graduation tickets at the end of the meeting. The meeting date is: Friday, April 27th from 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM in the Auditorium.

Homework club will meet in room 182 from 2:30 – 4:00 PM every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. Students are welcome to come during these times to work on assignments seek help, or develop improved study habits. Please see Mr. Steinbach in room 169 if you are interested or have any questions. Regardless, feel free to just stop by any Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon.
