Math

MSDE has released a Math Policy that reimagines how students become college and career-ready.  One part of the Math Policy requires the implementation of the Numeracy Development Framework.  This identifies competencies for PreK-8 mathematics that students need to know each year.

Literacy

Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts

Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a language arts program for Grades PreK–5 that combines a multi-sensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge—so that students learn to read and read to learn at the same time.

Built on the Science of Reading research, CKLA sequences deep content knowledge with research-based foundational skills. Every day in Grades PreK–2, students complete one full lesson that builds foundational reading skills, as well as one full lesson that builds background knowledge. In Grades 3–5, students start to master the skills of reading, further opening up their worlds.

Enriched Literacy Curriculum: Grade 5

The program was created using best practices in gifted education research utilizing components of Junior Great Books, William and Mary, and Lucy Calkins Unit of Study in Writing. The course is built around the core Grade 5 reading language arts curriculum standard and is designed for students that need advanced, rigorous instruction parallel to the learning experiences of students in the Centers for Enriched Studies. The program provides instructional opportunities with complex literary and informational texts, and writing instruction based on developing the writer through the writing process and writing workshops. It establishes an instructional atmosphere that promotes critical and creative thinking.
