Dr. Tiffany N. Awkard
Principal

I am thrilled to welcome all of our students, staff, and families to the 2025–2026 school year. It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as your principal, and I feel fortunate to continue leading the Silver Creek community.
I have a deep love for the “middle years” and the unique journey of growth that takes place in middle school. Watching students explore who they are, discover their potential, and take steps toward who they are becoming is both exciting and rewarding.
My goal is to ensure that every child has multiple opportunities to reach their greatest potential. One of my most important roles, however, is being a mother. As a parent of three children—two of whom attend Montgomery County Public Schools—I understand firsthand the social, emotional, and academic needs that students face during this critical stage of development. This perspective strengthens my belief in the power of relationships and the importance of the school-to-home partnership. Parents and guardians are every child’s first teachers, and by working together, we can ensure that our students’ holistic needs are met.
At Silver Creek, we are committed to creating a school community where every student feels safe, inspired to learn, and has a true sense of belonging. Our vision of Empathy, Equity, and Excellence (E3) serves as the foundation for everything we do. As Huskies, these core values guide our daily actions and help us celebrate the rich diversity that makes our school community so special.
I look forward to partnering with you in the year ahead to make this a successful, meaningful, and joyful school year for all!
Mr.James T. Heintz (Terry)
Principal Intern, Assistant Principal

I am excited to serve as your Principal Intern at Silver Creek Middle School for the 2026–2027 school year! This marks my 29th year in the district, and I am looking forward to this next chapter in my professional journey.
I graduated from McDaniel College in 1997 and began my career teaching Social Studies at Takoma Park Middle School before transitioning to North Bethesda Middle School. While developing my skills as an educator, I pursued a master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision from Bowie State University, graduating in 2003.
My administrative journey began at Rosa Parks Middle School in 2006, where I quickly learned the importance of the middle school years in fostering a love of learning and building the critical foundation for high school success. I then had the opportunity to support my students as they transitioned to Sherwood High School, where I spent three years deepening my understanding of the adolescent learner.
I have spent the last 13 years at Walter Johnson High School focusing on providing rigorous opportunities that promote college and career readiness. I am thrilled to return to middle school, where my passion for education first began.
Outside of school, my wife, Stacey, and I enjoy traveling with our seven-year-old daughter, Ryann. We also love spending time outdoors with our two dogs, Auggie and Sunny, and the newest addition to our family, Jimmy the cat. Whenever I can, I enjoy playing golf, and I am a devoted Washington sports fan—especially of the Washington Commanders.
I am honored to join the Silver Creek Middle School community and look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Go Huskies!
