Dr. Tiffany N. Awkard, Principal

I am thrilled to welcome all of our students, staff, and families to the 2025–2026 school year. It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as your principal, and I feel fortunate to continue leading the Silver Creek community.

I have a deep love for the “middle years” and the unique journey of growth that takes place in middle school. Watching students explore who they are, discover their potential, and take steps toward who they are becoming is both exciting and rewarding.

My goal is to ensure that every child has multiple opportunities to reach their greatest potential. One of my most important roles, however, is being a mother. As a parent of three children—two of whom attend Montgomery County Public Schools—I understand firsthand the social, emotional, and academic needs that students face during this critical stage of development. This perspective strengthens my belief in the power of relationships and the importance of the school-to-home partnership. Parents and guardians are every child’s first teachers, and by working together, we can ensure that our students’ holistic needs are met.

At Silver Creek, we are committed to creating a school community where every student feels safe, inspired to learn, and has a true sense of belonging. Our vision of Empathy, Equity, and Excellence (E3) serves as the foundation for everything we do. As Huskies, these core values guide our daily actions and help us celebrate the rich diversity that makes our school community so special.

I look forward to partnering with you in the year ahead to make this a successful, meaningful, and joyful school year for all!

Mrs. Kimberly Heidler
Assistant Principal

Welcome to Silver Creek Middle School! I am so excited to be starting my 8th year as an assistant principal at Silver Creek.  I had the honor of being on the inaugural staff that opened Silver Creek in 2017. Our outstanding staff, amazing students, and supportive parents are why I choose to remain and call Silver Creek my “second home”.  This year I have the privilege of being the 7th grade administrator as well as continuing to support the rising 8th graders with last names A-K.  I also supervise the English/Reading/English Language Development (ELD), World Studies, and Science/Technology departments.

In addition to being an educator, I am a mother first and foremost.  I have two wonderful daughters. One graduated last year from an MCPS high school and continues to take courses at Montgomery College during her gap year.  The other just graduated from a specialized nursing program at Drexel University and will be starting her nursing career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, PA.  My goal as an educator and administrator is to provide students with opportunities they may not otherwise be given to explore their interests, challenge their thinking, and build their self-confidence. The welcoming, safe, and supportive environment cultivated at Silver Creek Middle School also makes this possible by empowering students to be themselves and to find their voice. What I cherish most about the middle years is watching and supporting your children as they grow and mature from the nervous and unsure 6th graders into the caring, empathetic, and accepting 8th graders ready to take on the world. The journey, including the challenges along the way, are what make middle school so unique and memorable.

I look forward to getting to know your child even more this year and to partnering with you to ensure their success.  Together, we can make the 2024-2025 school year one of the very best!

Ms. Justine Pfeiffer
Assistant Principal

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year at Silver Creek Middle School! This is my second year at Silver Creek and I am so excited to continue with this amazing community.  I have had many roles in Montgomery County Public Schools, but working in schools is where I am most excited to be! Before coming to Silver Creek, I had the privilege of working in central office running two of the largest district wide programs: Summer Programs and Tutoring. This school year, I am returning to as the administrator for the 7th grade and for 6th grade students with last names M-Z. I supervise PE/Health, Special Education, and World Languages & Arts.
I am the proud mama of three beautiful children. My oldest son is a financial advisor. My oldest daughter graduated from  the University of Tennessee this past May and has moved to Rhode Island. My youngest daughter is also a middle schooler in MCPS. I also am a proud MCPS graduate - go Watkins Mill Wolverines! I start my mornings with meditation and exercise to set the day off to a great start! I enjoy cooking and baking, hiking, reading, and journaling, to name a few interests.
As an educational leader, I believe in giving and receiving joy in my everyday interactions with staff and students. I am fascinated by the teaching and learning process and am looking forward to seeing amazing results this year. This is going to be a fantastic year!
