Upcoming calendar reminders:

  • 1/13 PTSA Meeting 7pm in Media Center.   We will have an open question and answer time with Principal Miller, so if you have prepared questions in advance, please email them to rmsptsapresident@gmail.com. We will also be discussing an MCCPTA Resolution on Artificial Intelligence that can be found here.   • Session One for the 6th Grade Outdoor Education will be Monday, January 12th, 2026, to Wednesday, January 14th, 2026. Session Two will be Wednesday, January 14th, 202,6 to Friday, January 16th, 2026.
  • Schools and Offices are closed on Monday, January 19th. Please plan accordingly. 
  • CNO at Chipotle on Wednesday, January 21st, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Kentlands! Order online or for pickup using code 8M7RMG7 or mention the fundraiser in the restaurant, and 25% of the proceeds are donated to the PTSA. English  Spanish 
  • The basketball teams take on John Poole MS on Wednesday, January 21st. At 3:20 p.m. The boys are away and the girls are at home. 
  • We’re looking for a few adults and SSL students to sell concessions at the upcoming home basketball games in January and February. This is a fun and easy volunteering opportunity and a chance to see our teams in action! Sign up here to volunteer.
  • Friday, January 23rd is the end of the marking period.

    With MCPS’ grading and reporting policy, even a tenth of a point can make the difference between letter grades.
  • Save the date: Cultural Heritage Night is Thursday, February 12. Share your culture while also reveling in the wonderful diversity of our school community.

    How to get involved? Host a table: We are looking for staff, students,  families, and community members to host a table that represents your culture.  Decorations, posters, artifacts, food samples, treats, trivia, photos, authentic dress, music, etc. is encouraged! PTSA is offering a $50 reimbursement per table. Perform: We are also looking for performances by families, community members, staff, or students. Sign up today!

Caregiver Registration Night for Rising 8th
The staff at Quince Orchard High School would like to invite you to a
Caregiver Registration Night for Rising 8th and 9th students on Thursday, January 15th, at 7:00 pm in the Quince Orchard Auditorium.  This year, we are inviting rising 8th grade families to join us! This will allow you and your child an opportunity to plan their 8th grade year with high school opportunities in mind.  All families will hear about the programs and courses students have available to them at Quince Orchard High School.

RMS Recipe Book
Before Winter Break, students learned about fall/winter traditional foodways from around the world and were encouraged to share a favorite recipe to the official RMS Recipe Book. We are compiling this recipe book to share at our third annual Cultural Heritage Night. Please add a family favorite recipe to the RMS Recipe book. There are two ways to submit a recipe. The
FIRST way: Have your student log into their CANVAS classroom.  Navigate to their grade level tile and go to Module "RMS Recipe Book". Follow directions from there. The SECOND way: Provide a paper copy that your student brings in and gives to their Bobcat Boost teacher, or email shannon_stoughton@mcpsmd.org. Be sure to include the following: Ingredients, Instructions, About this recipe and picture if possible. Submissions are due by Friday, January 23, 2026.

Testing Updates
To ensure all students are well-prepared for the upcoming Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) Mathematics assessment scheduled for Tuesday, April 28th, and Wednesday, April 29th, all math classes will begin implementing weekly MCAP practice sessions. We strongly encourage you to support your child's preparation at home. For valuable resources and supplemental materials, please visit the RMS math website.

MCPS Student and Community Opportunities

C-SPAN StudentCam Competition: Students in 6th through 12th grades are invited to participate in C-SPAN’s annual national video documentary StudentCam competition. This year, students are being asked to create a five-to-six-minute video documentary on a topic that relates to the competition theme, “Exploring the American Story through the Declaration of Independence.” Top prize is $5,000. Deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026.
 
Choose Respect Video Contest: Open to secondary students, this contest challenges teens to create an original video promoting awareness of dating violence/abuse among teens. Videos can be in English or Spanish and must be 50-70 seconds in length. Top prize is $1,000. Deadline is Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026.
