Accelerated Reader

Reading is a very important part of our lives. Almost everything we do in our lives involves reading. The Accelerated Reader (affectionately known as AR) is an opportunity for students to read independently and to obtain pleasure from reading.

How it works:

  • A student begins by choosing a book for which there is an AR quiz available.
  • The student reads the book at their own pace.
  • The student takes a computerized quiz that assesses their comprehension of the book's key characters, events and information.
  • The computer adds the results to its database and generates reports for the student and teacher.

Points:

  • Each book has a point value assigned based on its readability and length.
  • After a student takes a quiz, the student receives points based on the book's point value and how well the student did on the quiz.
