Poolesville High School Modernization

PHS was built in 1953.  Would you like a new building sooner than later?  The following was put together by the PES PTSA and they are looking for support……AFTER ALL, IT IS OUR BUILDING that they are advocating for.

We had over 100 folks at the BOE testimony in the fall, and 20+ at the County Council budget testimony on February 6, 2014.  Our local leaders are on board.  We need students and teachers from PHS to join this effort.  The bus ride is FREE.  I’ll be taking my young children so they can be a part of the change they wish to see.

Here is a quick and easy summary about the PHS modernization process. I will call this "PHS modernization Advocacy for dummies (people like me)" ----- MCPS has a modernization schedule they use for upgrading exisiting and building new schools. PHS has been on that schedule for some time, however for various reasons our date for modernization keeps getting pushed back. If we stay silent our modernization date will continue to be pushed back. With the help of our advocacy leaders like Jerry Klobukowski, we have been pushing MCPS to keep PHS on track for modernization. Last fall Superientendant of Schools Dr. Starr recommended that PHS modernization be delayed yet again. At the budget testimony last fall WE showed in force and it made a difference. The School board heard our voices and went against the Superintendents recommendation and requested that our modernization stay on schedule. But that is only one small victory. There are still many hurdles to jump. There are things that YOU can do that will make a HUGE impact in keeping the modernization of PHS on schedule. I will talk about each of those in seperate comments below.

GET ON THE (free) BUS:

Hey POOLESVILLE!!! Want your children/students to have the best education??? Here's your chance to put your plan into action just by committing a few hours!!! In order to get the state money that MCPS deserves for Capital Improvement (read: NEW POOLESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, revitalization for Poolesville ES, etc.), we need to hit the road and bring people to Annapolis! Last year, Baltimore City brought 1000 people to Annapolis and they ended up with money for their schools! Let's do it for our kids and bring as many bodies to Annapolis as we can!!! MCCPTA will have a bus from Poolesville High School so PLEASE sign up, spend the evening with us and bring home the bacon to Montgomery County! Our kids deserve better schools! SSL hours will be provided for students ready to engage legislators : ) The bus, free of charge and courtesy of MCCPTA, will depart Poolesville HS on Feburary 13, 2014 March 6, 2014 at 4:30 pm and leave Annapolis at 9:00 pm in time for you to get a good night sleep knowing that you did your share for public education!

SEND AN EMAIL:

County Council President Craig Rice said on January 20th that he wants to get emails from parents and PTA members countywide if they really support the push for funding for our schools.

Do we support funding for school construction?  Of course we do.  Do you have two minutes to send an email.  Of course YOU do.  Let's write!  Let's send hundreds of emails.

Send Councilman Rice an email by CLICKING HERE.  You might want to start with  "You told MCCPTA President Janette Gilman that you wanted emails from parents across the county who support school construction funding.  I am one!"....and add your own thought about increasing county funding for schools, including school construction and maintenance.  Tell Craig Rice about YOUR school's capacity, modernization, and/or maintenance needs.
