If you are interested in being a chaperone for a field trip, MCPS requires that you be fingerprinted and complete an online training.  Fingerprinting can only be done by appointment at the MCPS Background Screening Office.  It can take up to several weeks for the process to be completed. There is a fee associated with the screening, but volunteers can apply for the Fee Assistance Program. Click the link below for details.

Potential Chaperones in MCPS MUST:

  • Schedule and complete Fingerprinting  (Valid for your child's entire school career in MCPS once completed)
  • Complete the mandatory online Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training. This training is required for any volunteer who regularly supports schools, chaperones a field trip, etc. and is available in multiple languages. When the course is completed, a report is created to serve as proof of satisfying the training requirement. (Valid for 3 years)
