Sunday Call to Families 3.18.19

Good Evening Gladiator Families. This is your principal, Ms. Charley-Greene, calling with updates and reminders for the week of March 18.

Tuesday, March 19 we will hold our PTSA meeting at 7:30 pm in the Media Center.

Many Northwood ninth – eleventh grade students have received letters from MCPS and Montgomery College about dual enrollment opportunities to earn college credits while in high school. Students who are interested in the possibility of taking MC classes while at Northwood should plan to be in the auditorium at the beginning of lunch Wednesday, March 20, 2019, to learn about the process for applying to MC and registering for classes, the cost, and the benefits of dual enrollment. See for eligibility requirements and more information.

Senior families: stay in the know about all of the important senior events by downloading the Class of 2019 brochure. Information is also available on our website. Graduation logistics will be shared at the April 27 senior parent breakfast.

Support Northwood High School athletes and coaches with the Northwood Athletics Association’s biggest fundraiser. Buying mulch directly supports the equipment and maintenance needs of Northwood’s athletic teams. Purchase 3 cubic foot bags of double-shredded hardwood mulch for $5.00 pick-up at Northwood or $6.00 delivery to your home on April 6. You can purchase mulch at the Northwood.

Northwood Beautification Day is sponsored by the SGA and will coincide with the mulch sale on Saturday, April 6. Students can earn SSL credit for the hours they work - and instruction will be provided on the morning of the event. Students should be encouraged to bring gloves and expect to get dirty.

Our Northwood Child Development Program is now accepting applications for our preschool. If you have a child that will be 4 years old by September 1st and would like to take advantage of this wonderful program please call 301-593-3800 or look at our school website for more details.

Northwood Juniors: on April 9 all 11th graders will have the opportunity to take either a FREE SAT or Accuplacer at Northwood High School, during the school day. SAT test takers will have the opportunity to participate, with your consent, in the optional Student Data Questionnaire. The College Board (the provider of the SAT), gives students and families complete discretion regarding any voluntary information they provide as part of the Student Data Questionnaire. Whether or not you consent for your child to participate in the optional Student Data Questionnaire, your child will still be able to participate in the SAT School Day on April 9, 2019, if they have signed up to take it. To provide consent for your child to participate in the optional Student Data Questionnaire or for more information regarding consent, please go to our website. Consent forms should be returned by Friday, March 22. Email any questions to Holly Jones, Academy Coordinator, at

Students: Interested in running for a SGA or Class Officer position? If so, please pick up an application outside of A218, in the cafeteria, or in the main office. Completed packets are due April 3 by 2:30 p.m. See Ms. Reazer for details.

That’s it for this week’s updates and reminders. Have a great week!
