Greetings! My name is Kurshanna J. Dean and I am honored to serve as the principal of Greencastle Elementary.
I am native of Washington D.C. where I currently reside with my husband and our high school senior. We have a daughter, a recent graduate of Towson University, and an adult son. We are almost empty nesters! 😊 I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of the District of Columbia, my Master’s degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University, and an Administrative and Supervisory certification from McDaniel College.
I have worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for 24 years, as a classroom and focus teacher, staff development teacher, instructional specialist, central office administrator, and an assistant principal.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, shopping, checking out the latest TV series or movie on Netflix, and the beach. I’m a lifelong fan of the burgundy and gold so you are guaranteed to find me rooting for the Commanders during football season.
My core values are accountability, communication, collaboration, equity, and relationship building. I am excited to return to the Greencastle community, as a former resident and now your principal. It’s going to be a dynamic school year!
I can be reached at 240-740-1420 or via email at Kurshanna_J_Dean@mcpsmd.org. Don’t forget to follow me on @PrincipalKJDean

Hello Greencastle Community! I was born in Maryland and grew up in Prince George's County. I identify as Chinese American. My parents taught me to be proud of my roots and I hope to inspire the students to do the same. I am married to a Filipino-American and we have two lovely children, one daughter and one son. In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends the most! I also love to go rock climbing, hiking, and playing pickleball and tennis. I enjoy watching movies and reading fiction novels. My all-time favorite books are the Harry Potter series. I like eating various types of cuisine, however, my go-tos definitely fall in the Asian category.
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with my Bachelor's in Mathematics and my Master's in Education. I earned my Administrative and Supervisory Certification from Hood College. I have been working for MCPS since 2010 as a math teacher, team leader, math content specialist, staff development teacher, and assistant principal. That said, I will always be a math teacher at heart. My core values are authenticity, relationships, and excellence. I believe that all children can grow and excel here at the Castle and I look forward to serving you as your Assistant Principal!

My name is Latina M. Bobo, and I am excited to join the team at Greencastle Elementary School. I bring 22 years of experience in education, including 10 years with Montgomery County Public Schools and 5 years serving as an administrator. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about building strong relationships, supporting teachers, and creating learning environments where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. I am committed to instructional leadership, student achievement, and partnering with staff and families to ensure every child feels seen, valued, and supported.
I am also proud to be the founder of the first elementary school chapter of the Minority Scholars Program in Montgomery County Public Schools, an initiative that reflects my commitment to equity, student empowerment, and creating opportunities for young scholars to grow in leadership and identity. In addition to my work in schools, I am currently pursuing my doctorate in Educational Leadership, which continues to deepen my passion for serving students, staff, and school communities.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, serving in ministry, and investing in opportunities that uplift children and families. I value both personal and professional growth and believe deeply in the power of education, community, and service. I look forward to partnering with the Greencastle community and supporting teaching and learning each day.
Have a wonderful school year!
