||Kathleen Hecklinger, Assistant Principal
I am a lover of leading and
life-long learning. I am a proud MCPS alumni and received my teaching and
leading credentials from The University of Maryland, George Washington
University and Johns Hopkins. After a year of teaching abroad in Turin, Italy I
returned home to an adventurous career in MCPS. After eight years of teaching I
had the opportunity to support dozens of teachers and schools as a Consulting
Teacher. I realized then how much I enjoyed supporting teachers. I spent
three years developing Curriculum and worked as a Staff Development Teacher. I
am married and have two delightful little boys. We live in an old farm house in
Germantown which is a never ending project and revolving door of family and
friends. I love singing classical music and show tunes, cooking and camping
with my family.

I am originally from a small town called Olyphant, Pennsylvania and am a proud graduate of Pennsylvania State University. However, I have lived in Maryland since 1998, and have been at Chevy Chase Elementary School since 2005. I have earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, am a National Board Certified teacher in the area of literacy, and am certified in reading in the state of Maryland. In my free time I enjoy watching football (Go Eagles!), exercising, reading, and going to the beach. My favorite foods are pizza and sushi, and I enjoy hanging out with my wonderful husband, and daughters, Lucy and Livvy.
||Joan O'Brien, Staff Development Teacher
I have been a MCPS teacher in many capacities for 25 years! I have spent the last 14 years here at CCES as the staff development teacher (as well as the Science Magnet Teacher and Acting Assistant Principal). My main job is to support all teachers in implementing new initiatives as well as supporting individual needs. I also teach a 6th grade photography, part of our IB arts rotation. In my free time I love to take and edit pictures, watch sporting events (Go Redskins!), cook and play with my three dogs – Ally, Callie and Harper!
