Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the Internship Academy (weekly seminar) course? What will I do/learn?
Internships take place off-campus, but enrolled students also attend a weekly required Internship Academy (Wednesdays in school).
The Internship Academy is a weekly internship reflection and skill-building workshop, where students will discuss and reflect on the skills and experiences they’re gaining inside of your internship. Skill-building is based on the Durable Skills Framework - the most in-demand skills that employers are looking for. Students will also explore postsecondary pathways and other essential career development knowledge and skills. Students will complete short assignments and an Internship Portfolio/Project. Attendance is required at each weekly session and will count towards your overall internship grade.
Students will meet with Mr. Brown, Internship Instructor & Coordinator, weekly on Wednesdays, as noted below:
- Triple-period interns attend the 6th-period seminar
- Double-period interns attend the 7th-period seminar
- Single-period interns attend the 8th-period seminar
Do I need to find my own internship site?
It is not a requirement to find your own internship placement! We encourage you to start working on your resume, cover letter, and explore your areas of interest (both industries and skills) over the summer. *NEW in SY25-26* B-CC is hosting a Hiring Fair where students will apply to internships they are interested in, and have the opportunity to interview for them. If students do find an internship over the summer, there will be paperwork that you will send to your internship supervisor to confirm your placement.
A resource we suggest students utilize to begin to develop their interest areas, resumes, and Cover Letters is Mr. Donnelly’s MoCo CAP Advisor Resource Hub.
Is the internship a FULL YEAR or just ONE SEMESTER?
The internship is typically meant to be a full-year experience, and in some circumstances it can be offered as a one-semester experience. Speak to your counselor and/or Mr. Brown for more information.
Can I still play a sport or other activities?
Yes—if you can meet the required minimum internship hours. Some interns work fewer hours during their sports season and make up time later. Flexibility will depend on your internship employer sponsor (your supervisor) and your willingness to adjust.
Am I guaranteed an internship?
The B-CC Internship team will do everything possible to support you in securing your internship placement! NEW in SY25-26: B-CC is hosting a Hiring Fair where students will apply to internships they are interested in, and have the opportunity to interview for them. Last year in SY24-25, B-CC had 25 extra unused internship placements - we tend to have plenty of employer partners who are excited and willing to support your growth and professional skills building!
Do I have to work every day?
While some interns work daily, most schedule longer shifts fewer days per week, especially if commuting far. For example: 3 hours on Tuesdays and 2 hours on Thursdays. Interns and their internship supervisor are expected to agree on a consistent weekly schedule, and will be tracking hours.
Is transportation provided?
Students need to arrange their transportation, and in some cases, internship employer sponsors provide Metro or other transportation support. Options include driving, walking, biking, Metro, or bus.
Is there a summer internship program?
Not through B-CC. However, many students independently pursue summer internships. While no credit is awarded, the experience is still valuable.
