Middle School College Awareness Events
Three early college awareness events are being held this month at MCPS middle schools. The events are geared toward middle and elementary school students and their parents, but they are open to parents of students at all grade levels.
At each of the three events, Dr. Genevieve Floyd, coordinator of the partnership program between MCPS and higher education, will share data and discuss how parents can prepare for their children’s post-secondary education. Representatives from The College Savings Plan of Maryland will provide information on state programs available to financially assist parents preparing for college costs. Montgomery College staff will address the college admissions process and financial aid, scholarships and grants.
They are scheduled as follows:
• Tuesday, May 6, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at John T. Baker Middle School. Baker is located at 25400 Oak Drive in Damascus. Refreshments will be served.
• Friday, May 16, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roberto Clemente Middle School. Clemente is at 18808 Waring Station Road in Germantown. Clemente students will offer a musical presentation after the event.
• Tuesday, May 20, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School. Loiederman is located at 12701 Goodhill Road in Silver Spring. Loiederman students will present a choral concert at the end of the presentations.
These events are sponsored by the MCPS Department of Enriched and Innovative Programs and Montgomery College.
