Counseling Department News and Notes

Needs Assessment

In order to best prepare a program meeting the needs of our students, the counseling department is conducting a needs assessment to collect more information about which programs and services to focus on for the 2013-2014 school year.  The parent version will be available at Back To School Night, August 29th, and also downloadable here.  If you missed this opportunity at Back to School Night, please download, complete and return the quick survey to counseling office.  Completed forms can be mailed, faxed, emailed, or hand-delivered to the counseling office.

 Did you know???

The Redland Middle School Counseling Department has a blog!  Found at, the Redland Counseling blog has been developed to provide timely information on a variety of parenting, child/adolescent development, and mental health topics.  The blog is also a great place to find links to resources on ADHD, transitions,
local mental health service providers and more.  To get all the information (and NO SPAM) sign up on the blog—it will send you an email every time there is a new post!

 Peer Mediation

The peer mediation program is up and running for the 2013-2014 school year.  This past summer, several students were trained in the skills needed to help their classmates peacefully resolve conflicts. They will be supporting the school by working with students throughout the school year as different conflicts arise.  Students, staff, and parents can request peer mediation for students through the counseling office by completing a request form which is available in the main office, counseling office, and downloadable here.  If you are interested in having your child participate in the peer mediation program (and mandatory training), please contact your grade-level counselor for more information.
