Student Service Learning (SSL) Hours at Ridgeview Middle School

Mrs. Braz is the SSL sponsor. She is in room 216 is you have any questions.

You should be able to see your current hours in the MyMCPS portal. Please please please be sure, when submitting hours in the future, that your form is COMPLETE and includes your STUDENT ID NUMBER!

It is never too early to become involved in service activities and earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours towards your graduation requirement. Students can participate in a range of activities—working at a soup kitchen, cleaning up a local park, or collecting items for a clothing or food drive. All MCPS students need 75 SSL hours to graduate from high school. Students can begin collecting those hours the summer before Grade 6.

Check out the various organizations and opportunities that are already approved for SSL hours here. You can also visit the MCPS SSL site for more information.

Don’t forget that all service hours must be submitted in a timely manner! Below are the SSL submission timelines.

  • Service completed during the summer—Recommended by Last Friday in September

  • Service completed during the summer and 1st semester—Recommended by First Friday in January

  • Service completed during the summer, 1st semester, and 2nd semester to be recognized for the Superintendent’s SSL Award (middle school)—Recommended by First Friday in April

  • Service completed during the summer, 1st semester, and 2nd semester—REQUIRED by First Friday in June.

All forms should be submitted to the counseling office before the deadline.  Incomplete forms will be returned to the student. BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR STUDENT ID NUMBER!

Once SSL forms have been submitted, please be patient as Mrs. Tyler enters them into the database. While earned SSL hours are visible on the MyMCPS portal, it takes time to enter the data, and report cards will be a more accurate way to see how many hours you have earned.
