Here is the MCPS link to create a new request to receive a Chromebook for your student to use at home. If you have a question or concern about home use Chromebooks, please read Ms. Knafelc's home-use Chromebooks FAQs.
- Do the students need an MCPS device? No. Everything the students are asked to do at home is through their school Gmail (@mcpsmd.net) account. They can access this through any personal device on which they are able to sign into Google.
- My student's at-home device is broken. Should I complete the form again? No. Students who already have device assigned to them should not comeplete the form as it is for new requests only.
- What should we do with a broken device?
- If the damage is physical such as a broken screen or anything similar, please have the student bring it in to the media center. It will be assessed for damages and if it is determined to be caused by something other than general wear and tear, a financial obligation will be issued and the student will be assigned a replacement Chromebook.
- If the Chromebook is just "acting funny," we suggest you try powerwashing the Chromebook by pressing Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R all together and then following the prompts on the screen. If that does not help, have the student bring the Chromebook to the media center and they will be assigned a replacement Chromebook.
- If the Chromebook is just not charging, try charging it on a different charger. If the Chromebook is charging on a charger not issued by MCPS, have the student bring the faulty charger to the media center and we will swap it. If it is determined that it is the Chromebook, bring the Chromebook in for a swap.
- What if my student has lost their device?
- Email Elizabeth_M_Knafelc@mcpsmd.org and Christopher_Cruz@mcpsmd.org with your student's full name and ID number. We will mark the Chromebook as lost, get the financial obligation paperwork started, and issue the student another Chromebook.
- My student splits time between my home and another parent's house. Can they have a second at home device for their second home? No. The county will provide only one home-use Chromebook.
- I filled out the form. Now what? When you fill out that form, it can take a couple of weeks for it to get processed at the county level and the request forwarded to Pyle's IT specialist. If you requested a new device for your student more than two weeks ago and they have not yet recieved it, you can email Christopher_Cruz@mcpmsmd.org with your student's full name and ID number. He will be able to look up the status of your request.
