Interactive Science Sites

Many museums have websites with interactive activities to help develop science concepts and problem solving skills. By using the Internet, you can travel to some of the best museums across the country and "experience" hands on exhibits. Here are a few sites your family might enjoy visiting.

Brooklyn Expedition: What are Structures?
Explore and learn about the shared characteristics between animal skeletons and homes, architecture, art forms, and information cataloguing systems. Go to "Bugs, Bones and Beasts" to build your own bug, or try building a bridge in the buildings and bridges section. This site is a collaborative project of the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Public Library.

Exploratorium- San Francisco, CA
Learn the science behind many sports, including how to throw the perfect curve ball, or learn the science involved in making different foods- including candy! Note, some topics on this site are for more older audiences.

Field Trip Earth - North Carolina Zoological Society
Run with the wolves, or at least track them as a field researchers would do with this interactive new Web site on wildlife conservation. The site puts a wealth of information at your fingertips, with reports from the field, video and audio clips, photographs, maps, and more.

Franklin's Forecast- The Franklin Institute
With "Franklin's Forecast," you can build your own weather station, learn about today's sophisticated weather technologies, and check the weather right now. Don't be otherwise. Be weatherwise! Click on Explore or Learn on the icon in the upper left to see more exhibits from the Franklin Institute.

Look and Learn at the Bronx Zoo
Watch videos, podcasts and slide shows starring animals at the Bronx Zoo.
