College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

NEW! Announcing Postsecondary Planning sessions for the Class of 2020.  Wednesday, February 6, 2019.  The MC Dual Enrollment Program will host an information session at 6 pm.  The Northwest Counseling Team will present Navigating Senior Year & Postsecondary Planning at 7 pm.  Northwest Auditorium.  Snow/Rain date:  Mon., Feb. 11 (same times).  | web post 15 January 2019 |

NEW! Montgomery College (MC) announces a Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) available through the Gudelsky Institute.  Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.  There is a $250 course fee and student application.  Courses will be held on Saturdays, starting February 16 through June 8, from 8:30 am to 2:15 pm.  Learn how to maintain and repair apartment interiors and exteriors, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, and appliances.  Enhance your professional growth in the industry where technicians can earn $40K. NEW! Announcing the 11th Annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Fair!  Friday, February 22, 2019, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Universities of Shady Grove, Building III.  Qualified seniors will be able to receive on-the-spot admission decisions and scholarship offers from some of the colleges and universities in attendance.  Students in grades 8-12 and their parents/guardians will be able to meet with representatives from over 50 historically black colleges and universities.  Workshops and panel discussions on financial aid, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion, scholarships, and college life will be conducted during the fair.  There will be a middle school seminar from 6 to 8 pm for grade 8 students and their parents on preparing for college.  For more information and to register for this event, visit montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/familysupport/hbcu/Registration opens January 7.  This event is co-sponsored by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and the Montgomery County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). | web post 2 January 2019 |

Paw Print TranZed Academy for Working Students (TAWS)!  The TranZed Academy is a new program for next year's high school seniors.  MCPS is implementing an apprenticeship program with 60 slots available.  Are you planning to work throughout your senior year?  Would you like to have a more flexible schedule so you can better balance your work and school schedule?  If so, the TranZed program might be a great fit for you.  Visit the TranZed Academy website for more information and to apply.  Please note the entrance requirements listed. 

Montgomery College Information:

 NWHS Jaguar Paw  High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season.  October 1 through March 1.  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 27 Sept 18 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities. 

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.
