College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

College Career News & Events:  

NEW! The 2019 Summer Rise Internship Program opens for registration on Monday, March 18!  Applicants must be a rising high school junior or senior in the Montgomery County, MD public school system.  Summer Rise is a 3-week, 60 hour, career development experience.  Students who successfully complete the program will receive a $300 stipend.  A limited number of opportunities are available.  Registration ends March 27.  Program dates will run from July 8 to July 26.  Visit Summer-Rise for more information and access to the registration portal.  | web post 15 March 2019 |

Reminder Notice Image NACAC National College Fair & Northwest Field Trip Date is scheduled for April 1.  Students who returned their Student Admit Pass confirming fair registration, signed Permission Form and $4 should report to the Auditorium at the beginning of period 3 on Monday, April 1.  Destination:  Montgomery County Agricultural Center in Gaithersburg MD.  Northwest buses will depart at 9:45 am and return by noon.  Over 300 colleges represented, including career schools and representation from branches of the US Armed Forces.  Students should be prepared to bring a bag lunch on the day of the field trip.  There will be no food available to purchase at the event.  The college fair will be open to the public the evening of April 1 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  | web update 4 March 2019 |

Reminder Notice Image The Universities at Shady Grove Undergraduate Expo!  Saturday, April 6 from 9 am to 12 pm.  At USG, nine Maryland universities offer specific degree programs all on one convenient campus (located in Rockville MD).  Students complete approximately 60 credits at Montgomery College (MC), then transfer to one of the programs offered at USG to complete the last two years of a Bachelor's degree.  Register to attend this event at shadygrove.umd.edu/DiscoverUSG.  Opportunities throughout the morning include:

Paw Print TranZed Academy for Working Students (TAWS)!  The TranZed Academy is a new program for next year's high school seniors.  MCPS is implementing an apprenticeship program with 60 slots available.  Are you planning to work throughout your senior year?  Would you like to have a more flexible schedule so you can better balance your work and school schedule?  If so, the TranZed program might be a great fit for you.  Visit the TranZed Academy website for more information and to apply.  Please note the entrance requirements listed. 

Montgomery College Information:

 NWHS Jaguar Paw  High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season.  October 1 through March 1.  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 27 Sept 18 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities. 

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.
