Hi 8th Grade Parents and Guardians,

The application season where 8th grade students can apply to county IB, Magnet, and other regional programs is starting. You can locate all of the important resources in regards to the application timeline, process, FAQs, and open house dates and details for each program at the following website:

MCPS has streamlined the Grade 8 high school application process by providing one common online application for all programs via Synergy. The High School Common Application will be online in ParentVUE.

Program eligibility for current Grade 8 students is based on the student’s address and middle school. Below is the link to gather information about each of the programs for each school cluster. Please make sure you view the offerings within the Northwest Cluster.

Listed below are some key dates for you to be aware of if you are interested in your 8th grader applying to any of the county-wide programs.

• September 15, 2025 - High School Preview Presentation - Broadcast on the MCPS website
 English Presentation - 7:00 P.M.
 Presentación en español - 8:00 P.M.
• October 6, 2025 - Application opens (on or about October 6) on ParentVUE
• November 7, 2025- Application deadline
• Last Week of January 2026- Notification of results
• February 13, 2026 - Deadline to Accept a Program Invitation
• February 14, 2026 - Deadline to appeal results (criteria-based programs only)
