PARENT COMMUNICATION: ParentVUE is a secure way to access information about attendance, classes, grades, report cards, online school enrollment, athletic registration, and much more. Parents are required to update emergency contact information for their child by Friday, October 3, 2025. It is extremely important to have updated information (parent/guardians names and phone numbers) for your child. We highly encourage to include emergency contact names and phone numbers in ParentVue just in case the parents/guardians cannot be reached. If you need to change your address or if there is a custody agreement pertaining to your child, please contact our registrar/counseling secretary, Ms. Lucy Monroy at 240-740-7140, or via email at Lucia_I_Monroy@mcpsmd.org You will NOT be able to make address changes yourself.
Parents new to ParentVUE should have received an activation letter with instructions via the U.S. Mail in mid-August. If you have forgotten your username and password, please contact Mr. Jason Godfroy, media specialist, at Jason_C_Godfroy@mcpsmd.org. Please be sure to include your child’s full name and current grade in the email. Please review our ParentVue Guide to get more specific tips on how to use this wonderful tool. Translated ParentVue Quick Guides: English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Amharic.
MCPS is also using Remind to engage with its school communities! If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to receive and send translated messages on any device - even a simple text message from your mobile phone! We encourage you to watch the Getting Started with Remind Video and review our Parent Remind Quick Guide to get more specific tips on how to use Remind. STUDENT FEES: Periodically, parents may be asked to pay a fee, which is not course-related. These may include class fees, special team activities, etc. There also may be fees related to field trips, but these will be shared each time there is a trip. Examples of possible fees include band/chorus T-shirts, Music in the Parks Festival field trip fee, Outdoor Education field trip fee (Grade 6), End-of-Year Activities fee (Grade 8), and Chromebook repairs/replacement. Parents can view and pay student fees/obligations via SchoolCashOnline. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Sonia Lee, our school financial specialist, at 240-740-7139 or via email at Sonia_E_Lee@mcpsmd.org.
CAFETERIA INFORMATION: Parents/guardians are responsible for school cafeteria account balances incurred by their student(s). Payment is expected, in cash or through prepayment to the student’s school cafeteria account, at the point of sale at the time of purchase, or through an online prepayment system at any time. The cafeteria continues to offer the convenience and flexibility of a computerized cash register system. Depositing funds into a cafeteria account eliminates the need for a child to carry money every day. All Students now use their MCPS Student ID number to access their account. Any money left on a student’s account from the prior school year is available for spending. Pre-payments to a student’s account may be made prior to the start of school. To make a prepayment, use MySchoolBucks.com, an online service to make a prepayment using a credit card. Parents can also check meal account balances, sign up for recurring payments and much more. Go to MySchoolBucks.com to register. You may also send a check or money order payable to Kingsview Cafeteria. If you have any questions regarding the lunch activity on your child’s lunch cafeteria account, please contact Ms. Jo-an Detzel, our cafeteria manager, at 240-740-7134 or via email at Jo-an_E_Detzel@mcpsmd.org. Parents can also visit the MCPS Food and Nutrition website for more information and for monthly menus: www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/food-and-nutrition/
Food allergies have become common among students nationally and within our school system. Students may have severe food allergies that could result in a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis. Therefore, food products that may contain any peanut or tree nut ingredients are not permitted in the cafeteria or classrooms. We are committed to minimizing the risks of allergic reactions by promoting healthy practices and by implementing school policies to ensure a safe school environment for all students, especially for those susceptible to allergens. In order to strengthen the healthy habits of all of our students, while being mindful of the risks of cross-contamination, we are encouraging students to wash their hands before and after eating. As a reminder, students are prohibited from sharing food with their classmates at all times. Please be advised that students are NOT allowed to receive food deliveries from DoorDash, UberEats, etc. Additionally, students are NOT permitted to bring any food items for distribution in the cafeteria during lunches, including, but not limited to, pizza, cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts and candy. Food received from deliveries and brought in for distribution will be confiscated and given to the student at the end of the school day.
FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL APPLICATIONS Families who meet certain federal income standards are eligible for free or reduced-price meal benefits. All children use their student ID number so confidentiality is maintained and no child is overtly identified as receiving free or reduced-price meals. Households are encouraged to apply online at MySchoolApps.com as processing times are significantly decreased. Only one application is needed for all students in a household. A new application must be completed annually. Parents are responsible for any charges incurred prior to the FARMS approval. If you have any questions, email DFNSHelpDesk@mcpsmd.org
STUDENT ATTENDANCE: Regular school attendance is essential to academic success and achievement. We expect students to attend school every day and to arrive on time. Classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:50 a.m. unless they have a pre-scheduled meeting with a teacher and bring a note from the teacher. Students must enter the building by the time the warning bell rings at 8:05 a.m. Students should be picked up by 3:15 p.m. Staff members are not available before 7:50 a.m. or after 3:15 p.m. to supervise students.
Late to School: Students arriving between 8:15 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. must report directly to class. They will be marked tardy. Students who are late to school three (3) or more times will be issued disciplinary consequences. After 8:20 a.m. students are to sign in at the main office to receive a pass to enter their class. The student must provide a note from their parents/guardians explaining the reason for being tardy. The attendance secretary will code the tardies as excused or unexcused.
Late to Class: Students are expected to be in their assigned classroom before the late bell rings every period daily. Students who are late to class three (3) or more times will be issued disciplinary consequences. Disciplinary consequences may include but are not limited to detention with the teacher or administrator.
Leaving School Early: Parents who wish to pick up their child early must do so before 2:30 p.m. NO early pick-ups will be allowed after 2:30 p.m. (12:00 p.m. on early dismissal days.) The bus loop must be cleared by 2:40 p.m. to allow MCPS buses to enter the parking lot. Please be advised that we have put this process in place to minimize classroom interruptions and maximize classroom instruction. On the morning of the early dismissal, students should bring in a handwritten and signed note from a parent stating the time he/she will be picked up and the reason. This note is to be given to the secretary in the main office when the student arrives at school. A pass will be given to the student to leave class and be ready in the main office at the desired time. Photo identification must be presented by the parent/legal guardian in order to sign out the student. If another relative will be picking up the student, his/her name must be indicated on the note and the named individual will be required to present photo identification in the main office. Additionally, parents requesting a change in dismissal plans must give clear written instructions for said change. Parents requesting their child to walk home must include this in the written note. Emails will not be accepted for early dismissal on the day of the dismissal. Please do not call ahead and ask us to have your child “waiting” for you. We will not support your request because we value every minute of instructional time.
Absences: Parents should call the school on any day when a student is absent. A note will be required within three (3) days after the child’s return in order for the absence to be excused. Please send the note to the attendance office when your child returns to school. An absence note should include:
- Full name and grade of student, Grade, ID number (optional)
- Date(s) of absence, Reason for absence
- Name and signature of parent/guardian, telephone numbers
