8th Grade End of Year Reminders

8th Grade End-of-Year Reminders

Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians and Students:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the procedures for our 8th grade end-of-year celebrations.  As we near promotion exercises, we would like to provide important information for both you and your student. The information included below will answer many questions and help you plan for the next several weeks.  This is an exciting time for our Kingsview families and we want to celebrate with you.  Based on parent and staff feedback, some awards will be given during an established Awards Day.  Students will receive some awards during their regular class periods.  Other awards will be given at the 8th grade promotion ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at Kingsview Middle School.  In an effort to provide seating for all parents, we find it necessary to issue tickets for the promotion ceremony.  Due to the capacity of our gymnasium and the adjacent Germantown Community Center gymnasium, only two (2) tickets will be assigned to each student.

8th Grade Parent Information Meeting:  Parents are invited to attend the information meeting on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the gym at Kingsview Middle School.  Only parents and registered legal guardians on the student emergency card may claim tickets. A photo ID and a signature are required to receive tickets.  Attendance to the meeting is highly encouraged to receive information about end-of-year activities and to obtain tickets to the 8th grade promotion ceremony.

  • Financial obligations must be cleared prior to Friday, May 9. Parents can view and pay student obligations via SchoolCashOnline.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Sonia Lee, school financial specialist, at 240-740-7149 or via e-mail at Sonia_E_Lee@mcpsmd.org.  Parents can view and pay cafeteria balances via MySchoolBucks.
  • Parents who are unable to pick up tickets at the meeting will receive information about an alternative plan at the end of the day on Friday, May 16.  Please be advised that any unclaimed tickets will be placed in the ticket lottery and distributed to other families if not picked up by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.
  • Parents can complete a request form for 1 or 2 additional tickets and return it to the administrative team at the parent meeting or to the main office no later than Friday, May 16.  Requests will be honored based on availability of any extra tickets or any unclaimed tickets.  Parents will be notified via telephone if their request can be honored by the end of the day on Friday, May 30.  Any additional tickets must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, or they will be re-distributed to other families.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Additional Information: Guests who require sign language or language interpretation should contact Ms. Karen Pate, 8th grade team leader, via e-mail at Karen_M_Pate@mcpsmd.org by Friday, May 16.  There will be a designated seating area available for guests with physical challenges.  Guests who require special seating should contact Ms. Pate via e-mail by Friday, May 16.  Service dogs will be permitted to accompany the owner and will be permitted to remain under the seat or at the owner’s feet.
