Kindergarten  
 SI team pic 1001010(10) Señora Elizabeth Arango is a native of Colombia and has two children. Her love for teaching early education is evident in the dedication, time, and energy that she puts into her classroom and lessons. Ms. Arango has been working with MCPS for over 12 years. She taught Preschool Special Education, worked in Infants & Toddlers, and has experience teaching middle school. Ms. Arango is a Psychologist with a Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education. Sra. Arango introduces the Spanish language to our little ones through songs, dances, pictures, & a lot of engagement.

Señora Gricia Canales is a native of El Salvador and has lived in the United States for over 30 years. She has been teaching for over 20 years, and 8 years in Montgomery County. Her experience with the immersion team at Burnt Mills helps students experience a continuity as they move through the grades and on to middle school. Mrs. Canales loves working with children and helping them develop into creative, intelligent members of their community.  

   
Grade K and 1 Reading Initiative
 SI team pic 2018 Señora Paola Galán is our Reading Initiative teacher.  She was born and raised in Montgomery County to Bolivian parents.  She attended Towson University and earned a dual certification in Elementary and Special Education. She is also certified in ESOL and uses those strategies often to teach in immersion.  Señora Galán has worked as a first and second grade teacher in Montgomery County for 10 years.  As a true Marylander, she love crabs and Old Bay.  Her favorite pass times are traveling, reading, and participating in Bible education work.
   
Grade 2  
 SI team pic 2018(1) Señora Marcie Zuniga joined Burnt Mills this year from a local private school. Ms. Zuniga is a proud MCPS graduate whose family is from El Salvador. We are so grateful to have her on our team.
   
 Grade 3  
 SI team pic 1201212(12) Señora Elizabeth Klass is the newest member to our team.  We were lucky to have her work with us last year as an intern where she worked directly with our immersion students and team.  She brings great energy and a love for the Spanish language and culture.  Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, she grew up in Maryland and attended Towson University and University of Maryland where she studied Political Science and Education.  She taught Tae Kwon Do in Four Corners for a few years.  In her free time, she loves to visit her family in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.  She enjoys riding through the country roads in West Virginia with her husband. Some of her hobbies are walking, reading, listening to audiobooks, and watching TV series.  
   
  Grade 4  
 SI team pic 2018 Señora Jodee Scissors is from Dallas, TX and proud mom to a brand new kindergartner.  She has over 12 years teaching experience.  Señora Scissors taught bilingual education, ESOL, and bilingual intervention before immersion.  She studied in Costa Rica and Mexico and taught English in Italy and Mexico.  Sra. Scissors is very motivated and energetic and we are so excited to have her on our team!

Señora Caroline Byrne brings innovative ideas, energy and a passion for languages!  She was born in Boston but grew up in Olney.  Señora Byrne studied Elementary Education at Catholic University.  She spends her summers at a language institute at Middlebury College where she is working on her Masters in Language Acquisition.  She has worked as a volunteer in Latin America, and taught at Oyster Adams and Scared Heart Bilingual School before coming to us.

Math, Science, & Social Studies
SI team pic 2018 Señora Maria Williams was born in Managua, Nicaragua but grew up in Maryland and is a product of Montgomery County Public Schools.  She attended West Virginia State University where she studied Psychology and went on to receive her Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction as well as English for Speakers of Other Languages.  She has been teaching for 8 years and in our 3rd grade immersion program before moving to 5th grade.   Some of her hobbies are reading, knitting, and baking.

  SI team pic 2018(1) Señora Gloria Plawner is from Quito, Ecuador but grew up outside of Boston. This mix of two cultures allowed her to grow up appreciating and loving traveling and languages. Any time she has the opportunity to learn about new cultures or countries, she jumps at the opportunity! Mrs. Plawner has a background in International Development and Public Health. She taught elementary and middle school students for 5 years in Baltimore City before coming to MCPS. During her free time she enjoys exploring the area with her family and two wonderful children!
