The new MCPS cell phone policy restricts middle school students from using their cell phone throughout the school day. As a way to prevent learning distractions, promote student engagement, and academic achievement, Briggs Chaney has implemented a cell phone-free school policy.

Students are encouraged not to bring their cell phones to school. Those who do must secure them in a designated location throughout the school day.

  • Phones will be collected in the morning and returned to students before dismissal.
  • If a student is found with or using a cell phone during the school day, the phone will be collected and returned to their parent.
  • Phones will be locked and stored in a safe location.
  • Students cannot carry cell phones or headphones while in school. This includes in their pockets, purses, etc.

Please discuss and share this vital information with your students.

Our goal is to enhance student academic achievement, and understanding these effects is crucial to our students learning. I encourage you to read the article to better understand the impact of cell phone use in class, and support our efforts to create a more focused learning environment.
