Grade 3 Central Review Process
For Grade 3 Ashburton Families:
The Grade 3 Central Review Process will provide you with information regarding your child's reading and writing (English Language Arts/ELA) placement in fourth grade. MCPS offers enrichment at the local school level (at Ashburton) and also offers enrichment at the Center for Enriched Studies (CES) at Chevy Chase ES beginning in 4th grade. All 3rd graders will participate in a central review process where several data points are analyzed to determine their best placement in 4th grade. Students who meet the criteria for the CES are placed in a lottery pool and names are drawn at random to fill those seats. Ashburton is one of a handful of elementary schools that fill seats in the CES program at Chevy Chase ES. If your child is selected from the lottery pool, you will have the opportunity to accept/decline the invitation to the CES. If you decline, your child will receive ELA enrichment in 4th grade at Ashburton ES.
More information about this process, along with an FAQ, can be found at this link and at this link. Please note: the gifted and talented identification process is a different process than the central review process. A student does not need to have the gifted and talented designation to qualify for the CES candidate pool.
