College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

 College Career News & Events:  

Reminder Notice Image The University of Maryland (UMD) announces their 18th annual College Access Conference.  Saturday, June 24.  8 am.  Adele H. Stamp Student Union.  Learn how to navigate the college admissions process. Sessions include the college essay, getting involved on campus, parenting a new college student, scholarships and financial aid.  Campus tours will be offered.  There is no cost to attend but registration is encouraged.  This conference offers guidance to underrepresented and first generation rising juniors and seniors.  Registration still open! |web update June 20 |   

Montgomery College Information:

New Scholarship Post First Year Experience & the Summer Bridge Program.  Program includes a one-credit course (First Year Seminar: STSU 100) that allows students to experience the college environment prior to the fall term.  Enrollment is limited; scholarships may be available.  Find out more and how to apply here.  | updated 28 April |

 High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season (October 1 - April 15).  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 14 Sept 16 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities.  

NW + MC Early College Access with Dual Enrollment. Earning college credit during your senior year. Application begins during senior year class registration! Click here for program details.

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.

New Scholarship Post Northwest College Career Summer Workshop Series begins June 20.  Workshops are FREE but registration is required.  Topics include:

  • The College Essay on June 20 @ 10 am
  • College Career Prep for Grades 9 & 10 on June 21 - REGISTRATION CLOSED as of June 20.
  • Financial Aid Basics on June 21
  • The College Search, Campus Visits & Best Fit on June 22
  • The FAFSA on August 2
  • The College Application on August 8 - REGISTRATION CLOSED as of June 20.

New Scholarship Post Damascus High School invites Northwest to their Summer College Visits.  Attendance at the following Damascus High School college visits is FREE but email registration is required.  Email Ed Martin to reserve your seat!  Please note, visits may be cancelled or rescheduled based on registration sign up.  High School College Career visits on the Damascus HS College Career calendar include:

  • University of Maryland Eastern Shore on July 5 at 1 pm
  • Towson University on July 11 at 2 pm
  • Frostburg State University on July 12 at 2 pm
  • Montgomery College Q & A on July 19 at 12 noon
  • Hood College on July 25 at 2 pm 
  • University of Maryland College Park on July 31 at 2 pm
