College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

Reminder Notice Image Northwest Class of 2017 Senior Exit Survey: Scholarships & Postsecondary Plans Due May 1!    Completion of this survey is a graduation requirement for Northwest seniors.  Scholarship achievements (name of scholarship only) will be printed in the 2017 graduation program along with a list of the postsecondary destinations of our graduates.  Scholarship data is reported to our Superintendent as required by the Maryland State Department of Education.  The survey is available to complete in Family Connection or using the Pen & Ink Version.  Click here to download online instructions and Pen & Ink Form.  Survey's must be completed and printed verification submitted to the College Career Information Center no later than May 1. | web post March 20 |

New Scholarship Post 2017 College, Trades, and Financial Aid Workshop sponsored by Congressman John K. Montgomery College Information: 

High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season (October 1 - April 15).  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 14 Sept 16 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities.

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.

Summer News, Events & Opportunities:

 New Scholarship Post 2017 Summer R.I.S.E. Program is the premiere countywide program designed to expose rising juniors and seniors to exciting careers and industries!  Online registration is NOW OPEN!  Summer R.I.S.E. interns will be working with professionals, developing the skills and commitment necessary to succeed in today's every changing economy.  Summer 2017 program dates will be July 10-July 28.  Online registration and application to the program is required, along with in-person and online professional skills training.  Click here to download the R.I.S.E. flyer.  Questions should be directed to summer-rise@worksourcemontgomery.com.  Summer R.I.S.E. participants will: 

  • Receive a $300 stipend upon successful completion of the program
  • Receive MCPS recognition upon completion
  • Participate in 20-25 hour career focused week learning about a business/industry in the private or public sector
