 NEW! Northwest High School students have been invited to participate in the University of Maryland, Baltimore County SPLASH! Program on the UMBC campus, March 10.  This is an annual one-day event where students can take classes taught by college students across various disciplines.  The idea is to promote life-long learning and encourage learning outside of the classroom.  Student registration is online at http://splashumbc.learningu.org.  Registration continues through February 29.  This program lets students choose from a variety of class topics such as introduction to Korean culture, category theory, Mahjong, the chemistry of baking, the science of sleep, medical diagnostics and dance history.  The program cost is $10 and fee waivers are offered.   Students would provide their own lunch.  Click here to download additional information.  [Posted February 7]

 NEW! THIS JUST IN...  The STAR Foundation has opened their application invitation to all African American 9th, 10th and 11th graders in Montgomery County Public Schools who meet the minimum requirements and want scholarship money to pay for future college or vocational school costs.  Click here for eligibility requirements and application.  Students must apply before February 24.   [Posted January 30]

 NEW! THIS JUST IN... The Montgomery County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will award scholarships to students residing in Montgomery County.  The scholarships will be presented at the Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday, May 6, 2012.  Click here for more information and to download the application.  Seniors must apply by March 1.  [Posted January 26]

 NEW! Historically Black College/University (HBCU) Fair.  Wednesday, February 15 from 6 to 8 pm (Snow date:  February 16).  Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Blvd., East, Silver Spring, MD).  This fair is open to all MCPS students in grades 9 to 12.  Over 60 HBCU admissions officers will be in attendance.  On-site interviews and scholarships will be offered.  Applications fees waived.  For more information and to register visit http://hbcucf.mbhs.edu.  NEW!  Important information for seniors applying to Montgomery College (any campus).  Submit your MC applications to your College/Career Information Center (CCIC) by February 28 and pay no application fee!  Only those students who submit their application to their CCIC will be eligible to take the Accuplacer at their high school (spring testing date to be determined).  [Posted December 13]

NWHS Jaguar Paw  Attention juniors!  The 11th Annual Montgomery County Young Professionals  Conference (YPC) is inviting you to attend and offering scholarships!  The conference will be held on March 22 from 8 am to 1 pm at the Universities at Shady Grove.  Juniors participating must be enrolled in specific high school programs including Academy of Finance, Academy of Information Technology, Biosciences Program and Broadcast Media/Multimedia.  Registration for the conference is $10.  Scholarships are available for conference participants.  The deadline for conference registration and scholarship application is February 17.  Visit the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education (MCBRE) web site or your College/Career Information Center for details.  [Posted December 7]

Inside the College Career Information Center ...

College and Career Information Center resources are available to use before school, during lunch or after school. Use of the center is by appointment during instructional time. Please incorporate regular visits to the College/Career Information Center into your schedule!!
 
College and Career Information Centers provide a wealth of support & resources to students and parents.  Centers house extensive testing and financial aid information and assistance into researching careers and colleges.  Information is available in various forms including books, CD's and computer on-line and software programs.

High School College Visits: 

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields.  Juniors and seniors sign up for these visits in the College/Career Information Center before school, during lunch or after school and must have teacher permission to attend.  The visit schedule runs daily on JAG TV and is also available to juniors & seniors registered with Family Connection.  Find out more ...
