College Career High School Visits:

Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields at their high school location.  Visits are usually held in the College Career Information Center (Room 126) during the school day.  Students with a valid Family Connection account are able to sign up to attend visits through their Family Connection account.  Passes are required and students should follow the instructions during the visit sign up to print their pass.  Staff signatures are required.  Visit schedules run daily on JAG TV, Family Connection and our event Google Calendar.  Find out more...

 College Career News & Events:  

New Scholarship Post National College Fair Field Trip Announced!  Northwest field trip date November 7!!  FREE to MCPS students.  Destination will be Bohrer Park Activity Center in Gaithersburg MD.  Northwest bus departure time is scheduled for 9:45 am with a bus return time of 12 noon.  One bus has been reserved for Northwest.  Permission forms will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all bus seats are filled or until student lunch on October 23rd.  Permission forms are available with each student's counselor and in the College Career Information Center.  Forms must be returned to the College Career Information Center.  This fair is a great opportunity for juniors and seniors still making college choices!

New Scholarship Post The 2018 Maryland General Assembly Page Program is now accepting applications!  Selected high school seniors, will have the opportunity to participate as pages for members of the Maryland General Assembly during the 2018 session.  Applicants should have an interest in government and/or history and the proceedings of the legislature.  Seniors applying must be at least 16 years of age.  Applicants must have or obtain a social security number.  Additional recommended requirements include having a record of good conduct and an average or above average scholastic record.  For more information, including how to apply and a link to all required documents to apply, click here.  The deadline for application is Friday, October 27; 5 pm.  |web post 18 Sept 17 |

New Scholarship Post Sophomore Invitation!  Apply for Nomination to participate in the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Program.  The HOBY Leadership Program invites sophomores from all over the State of Maryland to attend their spring summit from May 24-27, 2018.  One sophomore will be selected to attend and represent Northwest High School.   The student chosen will have their $225 registration fee paid by Northwest.  This is a great opportunity to meet students from other areas, explore life on a college campus (last year the location was Mount St. Mary's University), participate in leadership training and meet state leaders.  All this happens while making new friends and having fun!  Students begin consideration by completing the Northwest application.  Click here to download the application and program information sheet.  The deadline to return applications is November 3.  Our representation will be chosen on the basis of demonstrated leadership and leadership potential.  |web post 18 Sept 17 |

   Montgomery College Information:

New Scholarship Post High school seniors applying to Montgomery College are encouraged to apply during the 'Application Fee Waiver' season that begins on October 1 and continues until April 15.  Seniors who would like to participate in the Accuplacer testing program with Northwest should be aware that it takes approximately 10 days for Montgomery College to generate the admission letters (mailed to the home) with the MC ID number required to take the Accuplacer.  | updated 28 Sept 17 |

Student planning to transfer to a 4-year post-secondary institution after MC are encouraged to use ARTSYS as part of their college planning.  ARTSYS is the State of Maryland Articulation Information website.  ARTSYS shows which MC courses are recommended for transferring to specific Maryland colleges and universities.  

NW + MC Early College Access with Dual Enrollment. Earning college credit during your senior year. Application begins during senior year class registration! Click here for program details.

Montgomery College (MC), supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the Graduate and Transfer Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Talent Expansion Program (GT STEP).  The program is designed to assist students who are majoring in STEM fields (biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, or math) in acquiring their AA degree and/or facilitating their transfer to a 4-year college or university.  Program details and application can be found here.
