Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make the Booster Club Silent Auction on Thursday such an incredible success!  Whether you helped with the preparation, donated items, or participated on Thursday evening, your support makes a tremendous difference for our students!  I also want to extend a very special thank you to the event chairperson, Kim Summers, who spent countless hours coordinating all of the details of the event.


Halloween Costumes

While students are allowed to wear costumes for Halloween on Tuesday, absolutely no masks and no weapons are allowed.  Please note that the prohibition on weapons includes real weapons, toy weapons, and anything that looks like a weapon, even if the item is part of a costume.


Drama Club Performance: Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4

Our drama club is presenting “Oz” this upcoming weekend, and all members of the community are invited to see what promises to be an outstanding show!  Performances will occur at 7:00 pm on Friday, November 3, and at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 4.  Tickets are $8.00 for students and $10.00 for adults.


Senior Panoramic Pictures: Orders Due Friday, November 3

Seniors can order a copy of the senior panoramic picture for $20.00.  All orders are due to Ms. Amy Mason, yearbook sponsor, in room 122 no later than Friday, November 3.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Mason at  Additional order forms are also available in room 122. 


Northwest Blankets Being Sold by the Music Department

The Northwest Music Department is selling “NWHS Jags” embroidered fleece blankets to raise funds for their spring field trip. Blankets are only $15, and order forms are available here:  Orders can be submitted to Ms. Baker, choral music director, or the media center staff.  The deadline to order is next Thursday, November 9.


Winter Sports Registration

Winter sports tryouts start Wednesday, November 15, and registration this year will be online.  For complete details, please visit   Parents must register their children by Monday, November 13, in order for them to be able to try out on Wednesday, November 15.  For parents who do not have access to a computer, please come to room 104 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm tomorrow, Monday, October 30, or Wednesday, November 1, for assistance in completing the registration process.  If you have any questions about registering for winter sports tryouts, please contact Ms. Anne Rossiter, athletic director, at  Please note that some teams may require additional sport-specific forms, and these forms will not be available online.  Students should check with the respective coach to see if there are any additional required forms.


Learner’s Permit Test at Northwest HS: Wednesday, November 15

Northwest High School is very excited to be partnering with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) to offer the learner’s permit test at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, in the Northwest High School Auditorium.  Interested students must be at least 15 years and 9 months by November 15.  Permission forms may be picked up in the main office and must be returned to the main office no later than Tuesday, November 14. 

If students pass the test, they will have to travel to an MVA office at a future date to obtain an actual learner’s permit.  However, we are offering this service at Northwest to make it more convenient for students to take the test in a familiar environment.  If you have questions about this, please contact Ms. Barbara Veirs in the Northwest High School Main Office at (301) 601-4660, or Ms. Monica Neupane at the MVA at (301) 956-1400.


Montgomery County Flu Shot Clinic at Northwest HS: Thursday, November 9

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services is sponsoring a free flu shot clinic for children between the ages of 3 and 18 on Thursday, November 9, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in the Northwest cafeteria.  To make an appointment, please visit, or call 311.


Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County: Requests Due by Monday, November 13

The Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County provides December holiday assistance to families in need throughout our community. To request assistance, there is a form that must be completed and returned to the Northwest Counseling Office by Monday, November 13.  The form is available here:  It is also available in the counseling office and in the “News” section of the Northwest homepage.


Free and Reduced-Price Meals

In order for students to receive free or reduced-price meals, a new application must be submitted each school year.  If your student received free or reduced-price meals last school year and a new application has not yet been submitted this year, please do so as soon as possible so that your student can continue to be eligible.  Applications are available in the main office, the counseling office, and at this link:


Cap and Gown Fee

The graduation cap and gown price for this year is $52 until April 1.  The fee can be paid online at  


Student Pictures for Grades 9-11

All students in grades 9 through 11 took yearbook pictures in September.  Parents can now view and order these pictures online at  Simply click “After Picture Day – Proof and Order Online” in the lower left corner of the page, and the online code is your child’s 6-digit student ID number.
