Congratulations to Marching Band!

Our marching band competed against schools from across the state yesterday at Towson University and came home with the Class IIA State Championship!!  Congratulations to Director Emily Carpenter, Assistant Director Dave Eason, and all of the members of the band on this huge accomplishment!!


Booster Club Silent Auction: Thursday, October 26

The Booster Club Silent Auction is this Thursday, October 26, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the cafeteria.  Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.  Everyone is encouraged to bring friends and family to help the Booster Club raise funds for Northwest, as there are hundreds of items with a total value of over $30,000.  There is something for everyone... sports and theater tickets, restaurant gift cards, autographed memorabilia, hotels, themed baskets, tours, Northwest items, clothing, skin care, accessories, and so much more! All proceeds will directly support Northwest student activities!

Make-up Pictures for Students in Grades 9-11: Tuesday, October 24

Make-up pictures for students in grades 9 through 11 are scheduled for this Tuesday, October 24, during math classes. 


“Kids Helping Kids” Food Drive Ends This Thursday, October 26

The Helping Hearts Club is sponsoring a canned food drive that continues through this Thursday, October 26.  All students are encouraged to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items to their 1st period classes no later than Thursday.  The class with the most items will receive doughnuts!


Free and Reduced-Price Meals

In order for students to receive free or reduced-price meals, a new application must be submitted each school year.  If your student received free or reduced-price meals last school year and a new application has not yet been submitted this year, please do so as soon as possible so that your student can continue to be eligible.  Applications are available in the main office, the counseling office, and at this link:


Winter Sports Registration

Winter sports tryouts start Wednesday, November 15, and registration this year will be online.  For complete details, please visit   Parents must register their children by Monday, November 13, in order for them to be able to try out on Wednesday, November 15.  For parents who do not have access to a computer, please come to room 104 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25; Monday, October 30; or Wednesday, November 1 for assistance in completing the registration process.  If you have any questions about registering for winter sports tryouts, please contact Ms. Anne Rossiter, athletic director, at  Please note that some teams may require additional sport-specific forms, and these forms will not be available online.  Students should check with the respective coach to see if there are any additional required forms.


FAFSA Workshop at Montgomery College – Germantown: Saturday, October 28

Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County: Requests Due by Monday, November 13

The Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County provides December holiday assistance to families in need throughout our community. To request assistance, there is a form that must be completed and returned to the Northwest Counseling Office by Monday, November 13.  The form is available in the counseling office and in the “News” section of the Northwest homepage.

The graduation cap and gown price for this year is $52 until April 1.  The fee can be paid online at  


Student Pictures for Grades 9-11

All students in grades 9 through 11 took yearbook pictures in September.  Parents can now view and order these pictures online at  Simply click “After Picture Day – Proof and Order Online” in the lower left corner of the page, and the online code is your child’s 6-digit student ID number. 


Enforcement of Pedestrian Laws

The police department has informed us that there will be additional enforcement of pedestrian laws in the coming days along Great Seneca Highway and Richter Farm Road.  If your student walks to and/or from school, please remind him or her that it is the law to only cross at designated crosswalks and to obey pedestrian control signals.  Individuals violating these laws may be subject to fines that start at $50 and can go as high as $500.
