parent volunteers, for organizing the first-ever Northwest College Fair
last Wednesday. We had over 500 people attend, and we are looking
forward to making this an annual tradition!
Student Emergency Information Forms

their children. “Student Emergency Information” forms were distributed
to all students last Wednesday and Thursday. Please make any necessary
changes on the form, sign the back and ask your student to return it to
his or her 1st period teacher tomorrow, Monday, October 16.

Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County: Requests Due by Monday, October 16
Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County provides a Thanksgiving
meal and December holiday assistance to families in need throughout our
community. To request assistance, there is a form that must be completed
and returned to the Northwest Counseling Office by tomorrow, Monday,
October 16. The form is available in the counseling office and in the
“News” section of the Northwest homepage.
Booster Club Meeting: Monday, October 16
Booster Club will be meeting tomorrow, Monday, October 16, at 7:00 pm
in the media center. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend.
In addition, the Booster Club would like to invite all parents and
community members to its annual silent auction from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
next Thursday, October 26. The event is free to attend, and there will
be opportunities to bid on more than 300 items, including hotels,
restaurants, sports tickets and family activities. The silent auction
is a great opportunity to start holiday shopping!
Drama Club Parent Meeting: Monday, October 16
parents of students participating in the fall drama club performance of
“Oz” are encouraged to attend a parent meeting tomorrow, Monday,
October 16, at 6:00 pm in room 250 (across from the auditorium). At the
meeting, parents will learn what they can expect in preparation for the
upcoming show and ways that they can support the success of the show.

Freshman Class Fundraiser: Monday, October 16
Tomorrow, Monday, October 16, the freshman class is sponsoring a fundraiser at Panera in the Kentlands from 6:00
pm to 9:00 pm. All you have to do is mention Northwest to the cashier,
and the freshman class will receive a percentage of the sale!
Powder Puff Football Game: Thursday, October 19
annual Juniors vs. Seniors Powder Puff Football Game is this Thursday,
October 19, at 6:30 pm in the stadium. Tickets are $5 and will be sold
starting at 6:00 pm Thursday evening.
Northwest High School Preview Night: Wednesday, October 18
Northwest High School cordially invites all families of elementary and middle school students in the community to attend the 8th
annual Northwest Preview Night this Wednesday, October 18, at 7:00 pm
in the Northwest High School Auditorium to learn more about the
outstanding academic programs and extracurricular opportunities
available to students at Northwest. Among other things, the evening
will feature performances by student organizations, and student speakers
will share their experiences in the Ulysses Signature Program. There
will also be information about the Middle College program, in which
students can earn an associate’s degree from Montgomery College while in
high school. This event is open to all families of future Northwest
students, not just 8th graders!
Student Pictures for Grades 9-11
students in grades 9 through 11 took yearbook pictures in September.
Parents can now view and order these pictures online at www.vosphoto.com/northwest.
Simply click “After Picture Day – Proof and Order Online” in the lower
left corner of the page, and the online code is your child’s 6-digit
student ID number. Make-up picture day for students in grades 9 through
11 is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 24.
National College Fair: Tuesday, November 7
juniors and seniors have been invited to participate in the National
College Fair field trip scheduled for Tuesday, November 7. This year’s
event will be held at the Bohrer Park Activity Center in Gaithersburg.
The fair is free, and representatives from colleges, universities and
career fields will be on site to share information with our students.
Permissions forms are available in the college/career information center
and the counseling office. Permission forms will be accepted until
Monday, October 23, on a first-come, first-served basis until all bus
seats are filled. Please note that MCPS prohibits students from driving
to this event during the school day. The bus will depart from
Northwest at 9:45 am and return by 12:00 noon. Participating students
should plan to bring their lunch.

Winter Sports Registration
sports tryouts start Wednesday, November 15, and registration this year
will be online beginning tomorrow, Monday, October 16. For complete

Parents must register their children by Monday, November 13, in order
for them to be able to try out on Wednesday, November 15. For parents
who do not have access to a computer, please come to room 104 between
6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25; Monday, October 30; or
Wednesday, November 1 for assistance in completing the registration
process. If you have any questions about registering for winter sports

Enforcement of Pedestrian Laws
police department has informed us that there will be additional
enforcement of pedestrian laws in the coming days along Great Seneca
Highway and Richter Farm Road. If your student walks to and/or from
school, please remind him or her that it is the law to only cross at
designated crosswalks and to obey pedestrian control signals.
Individuals violating these laws may be subject to fines that start at
$50 and can go as high as $500.

George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy, Inc. Saturday School is a
low-cost tutoring and mentoring program that provides a sixth day of
learning and helps MCPS students enhance their mastery of core academic

attend sessions at one of 12 locations across Montgomery County,
