  The Media Center

Welcome to the "heartbeat" of our school. (Or we would like to think it is!)  We have somewhat of an "Open Door" policy and welcome students to come in and enjoy a great book, magazine, playaway and more. Students in grades 3-5 have Media at least once a week.  These students work with the Information Literacy strand of the MCPS/State of Maryland Curriculum focusing on technology, research, literature appreciation and more. Students also spend time learning useful technology skills and use many different apps on our Chromebooks! Google Classroom is used to share and create documents and more. Students are encouraged to checkout all the media center has to offer. Most books, magazines, and playaways are checked out for two weeks unless noted otherwise.

We will focus this year on reading and implementing the Common Sense Media Curriculum.

Makerspace Table

We are also enjoying our small, yet busy Makerspace area! Monthly themed projects/activities allow students to come in before school or during Open Media to express their "creative side."

Our Hours

The Media Center is open each day from 9:00-4:00.  We are also open most days during the lunch/recess hour.  We call this time, Open Library, and students are encouraged to visit to read or to "work" on a computer - educational sites only!

Technology

All students will have access to Chromebook laptop computers. Students will receive his/her email accounts and passwords during the early days of the school year. We feel fortunate to have access to the GAFE (Google Apps for Education) program and look forward to working with a plethora of apps, websites, and more. Students will also be expected to review and return our  Chromebook Expectations letter which details our policy on Chromebook usage.
