From the Media Center- Monthly Newsletter (final) March 2018
Welcome to the "heartbeat" of our school. We have somewhat of an "Open Door" policy and welcome students to come in and enjoy a great book, magazine, playaway and more. Students in grades 3-5 have Media at least once a week. These students work with the Information Literacy strand of the MCPS/State of Maryland Curriculum focusing on technology, research, literature appreciation and more. Students also spend time learning useful technology skills and use many different apps on our Chromebooks! Google Classroom is used to share and create documents and more. Students are encouraged to checkout all the media center has to offer. Most books, magazines, and playaways are checked out for two weeks unless noted otherwise. We will focus this year on reading and implementing the Common Sense Media Curriculum.
Currently, we are creating triskeles!
We are also enjoying our small, yet busy Makerspace area! Monthly themed projects/activities allow students to come in before school or during Open Media to express their "creative side."
All students will have access to Chromebook laptop computers. Students will receive his/her email accounts and passwords during the early days of the school year. We feel fortunate to have access to the GAFE (Google Apps for Education) program and look forward to working with a plethora of apps, websites, and more. Students will also be expected to review and return our Chromebook Expectations letter which details our policy on Chromebook usage.
Student Government Association
The focus of the SGA is on community service and school spirit. In the past we have supported A Wider Circle, Rainbow House, The Montgomery Coalition for the Homeless and more.
Bulldog TV Studio
Our in-school TV studio is the home of our weekly show, Wake Up NCC. Students participate in all of the jobs necessary to put on a morning news show including Anchors, Script Writers, Camera People, Sound Board, Audio and more.
