SNHS is governed by a four-person council of Co-Presidents:
SNHS is governed by a council of elected senior presidents and elected junior vice presidents. The elected junior vice presidents become the presidents in the following school year.
Additional leadership opportunities (tutoring coordinators/liaisons and social media outreach) are also selected each year.
The Science National Honor Society (SNHS) was established in 2000 with the following objectives:
- Encourage and recognize scientific and intellectual thought
- Advance the students' knowledge of classical and modern science
- Communicate with the scientific community
- Aid the civic community with its comprehension of science
- Encourage students to participate in community service and in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge that benefits all humankind.
Eligibility Requirements
To maintain the status of an active member and receive recognition at the time of graduation, all members must:
- Maintain a 3.0 overall unweighted GPA and a 3.5 unweighted GPA in science courses.
- Take at least one science course per year.
- Take at least one higher-level science course (any AP science course, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensic Science, and/or Molecular Biology) in your academic career.
- Complete at least 4 SNHS credit hours (tutoring, community outreach, speaker series) each year.
- Pay a one-time membership fee
- Attend meetings.
Please note that every member must meet the eligibility requirements in order to maintain the status of an active member and receive recognition at the time of graduation.
Membership
Students who are interested in membership and have met the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply for membership in the spring of their sophomore or junior year. Applications are due the Friday before Memorial Day. Accepted students will officially become members in the fall of the junior or senior year. An Induction Ceremony will be held after the first lunchtime meeting of the new school year.
