  •  Good morning staff and students, today during EXCEL and Thursday, during NOW Reading we will have a lesson on school safety and security. Students and staff will review six scenarios related to an active assailant or intruder in a school building. Please understand that these are scenarios that will help us to be prepared for an emergency. We are not afraid, nor are we in danger. We just want to be prepared for all emergencies. Please relax, and listen carefully as we go through these six scenarios during EXCEL and NOW Reading. At the same time, it is vitally important for you to take this lesson seriously and participate.During and after the scenarios, you will be able to ask questions and give suggestions and your opinion. Suggestions and comments from staff and students are welcomed and needed.Students, please listen closely to what your teacher says, and don't be afraid to ask questions.  There may be several things for which we do not have answers at this time, but what we do today will help us and MCPS's Department of Safety answer those questions. Finally, we realize that a lesson such as this may cause some of you to be anxious. Please say something to a teacher or counselor if you feel anxiety and need support.
