Special Education Services

Richard Montgomery has two distinct special education programs:

The Learning and Academic Disabilities (LAD) Program

Learning and Academic Disabilities (LAD) services are available in all secondary schools in MCPS. These services are provided in a continuum of settings that may include components of self-contained classes, co-taught general education classes, and other opportunities for participation with non-disabled peers. Social Emotional Special Education Services (SESES) Program

Social Emotional Special Education Services (SESES): 240-740-6152

Behavioral and Emotional Support Services are provided to students who demonstrate significant social, emotional, learning, and/or behavioral difficulties that adversely impact their success in school.  Students are served in a continuum of settings that may include self-contained classes and opportunities for participation in general education classes with nondisabled peers as appropriate. Teacher, Special Education Resource (RTSE)

Serves as the liaison to the Dept. of Special Education Services. Supports special education classroom teachers in the instructional program and planning for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities.

Speech & Language Pathologist

Provides service to students with communication disorders involving articulation, fluency, oral language, or voice. Services range from consultation to direct intervention.

Serves as a liaison between the program, school personnel, families and outside resources; responsible for providing intensive counseling to students with significant social, emotional and behavioral challenges, assisting them with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional environmental issues that interfere with the educational process.
