2024-2025 Drumline Audition Information - Whitman Instrumental Music

“1-2-3-4 Let’s Get Busy”! Are you interested in being a part of the Whitman Drumline? Auditions for the 2024-2025 Drumline will be held in mid May - complete information is available online (click). 

 

The Whitman Drumline is the most public component of the Instrumental Music program and is open to all students in grades 9-12 at WWHS, regardless of their involvement in a music class. Membership is by Audition only - All students with musical experience and an interest in performing as a part of this student ensemble are welcomed and encouraged to audition! The Drumline is a very active organization and operates throughout the entire school year. Student commitments include:

 

  • Weekly Rehearsals (year round - approx. 2.5 hours per week)
  • New Student Orientation (Thursday August 22)
  • 5 Home Football Games (Sept 6, Sept 13, Oct 4, Oct 10, Oct 31)
  • Pep Rallies & school spirit activities (year round)
  • Various Whitman sports and community events (fall, winter, & spring)
  • Poms Competitions (Saturdays in January, Championship in Early Feb)
  • Talent Show (Apr 24-26, 2025)

 

We anticipate having 2 snare, 2 bass, and 2 cymbal spots to fill for the 2024-2025 season. There will NOT be auditions for quads this year. All equipment is provided by the school free of charge.

 

In order to audition for the Whitman Drumline, students are strongly encouraged to attend 2 days of instructional clinics (May 16th & 17th) and required to complete a 5-minute live performance audition (May 22nd or 23rd). Clinic & Audition Schedule

**All Events held in Room 151 at Walt Whitman HS**

    • Instructional Clinics - Thursday May 16th & Friday May 17th | 3:30-4:45 PM
  • All interested students are strongly encouraged to attend these sessions where everyone will have a chance to try all four types of drumline instruments and work in small & large groups on the audition material for the instruments you choose to be considered for
  • Please contact us if you have a conflict that prevents you from attending both days
    • Performance Auditions - Wed. May 22nd OR Thurs. May 23rd | 2:45-4:30 PM 
  • Prospective students will complete a 5 minute live performance audition on up to
    2 instruments that they would like to be considered for
  • Students without prior percussion training/experience are strongly encouraged to audition on Bass or Cymbals in order to be competitive - Snare is a very demanding and challenging instrument 
  • Everyone will register for one time slot only

  3. Begin preparing the audition materials available in this google folder (click)
  4. Join the Drumline Auditions REMIND page (click) or text DLaudition to 81010
