Important Community News
23 August 2022
Dear, Lakewood Elementary School Families-
We are excited to welcome scholars and staff back to school on 29 August 2022 for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. We know many of our families have spent time over the summer traveling, visiting with friends and family, and engaging in fun community activities. To achieve our goal of a healthy start to the school year, MCPS is recommending that all scholars and staff take an at-home rapid COVID-19 test prior to the first day of school.
Where can I pick up a rapid test kit?
Families may obtain rapid test kits at the following locations:
- Test kits may be available for pick up at school-sponsored events prior to the first day of school. Test kits will be handed out on Thursday, 25 August at our Sneak Peek event. Additional tests will be available the first week of school for those who were not able to pick one up prior to the first day.
- August 27th at the MCPS Annual Back-to-School Fair, Westfield Wheaton Mall, 10am - 1pm
- COVID-19 Weekend Vaccine Clinics
August 27
- Clarksburg High School, 10am - 6pm
- Paint Branch High School, 2pm - 6pm
- Shady Grove Middle School, 10am - 6pm
August 28
- Takoma Middle School, 10am - 6pm
- Montgomery Blair High School, 10am - 6pm
- Gaithersburg Middle School, 10am - 6pm
- Free rapid test kits are also available to Montgomery County residents at mostpublic library locations, or by mail for home delivery from the US government.
What do I do if the rapid test is positive?
MCPS is asking all students and staff with a positive result to report it on the MCPS COVID-19 Reporting Form. Individuals who have a positive COVID-19 test will need to follow CDC guidelines for isolation.
What do I do if the rapid test is negative?
As testing is strongly recommended but not required, negative test results do not need to be reported.
Testing and staying home when sick are important ways to reduce COVID-19 transmission in schools and keep students and staff healthy for in-person learning. We look forward to a strong start to the 2022-2023 school year!
Thank you,
Principal Kelly
