Middle School

Middle school students work with adapted grade level content in the areas of Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies. Imbedded throughout the academic program are the IEP goals, Fundamental Life Skills Curriculum, Alt-MSA Mastery Objectives and Community Based Instruction.

Reading

In Reading we use grade level adapted Core Reading books (Maniac Magee, Anne Frank: the Diary of a Young Girl, and The Giver) to learn concepts such as main idea, main character and new vocabulary words.

Math

In Math we use manipulatives, two dimensional and three dimensional materials to learn concepts such as measuring, graphing and patterns.

Science

In Science we use the 5 “E”s: Engage, Explain, Explore, Evaluate, and Extend to experiment with concepts in areas such as force, friction, and motion, chemical reactions and health.

Social Studies

In Social Studies we use multimedia materials (books, videos, cds, dvds, and computer programs) to learn about ancient history, united states history and modern government.
