Special Programs

Here are some of the special activities in which we are involved at Kemp Mill:

During the school day:

Ambassadors – Selected students take new students on tours of the school.

Chorus - We have one voluntary choral group that meets once a week. The chorus is for grade 4 and 5 students.

Third Grade Recorders - Third grade students are given the opportunity to learn and perform the recorder

Second Grade Musical - Second grade students are given the opportunity to perform in a musical.

Dual Language Program  - Please follow link for more information regarding Kemp Mill's program developing bilingualism and biliteracy for speakers from English and Spanish speaking homes.

Instrumental Music - Fourth and fifth grade students can elect to participate in our instrumental music program. Students learn to play an instrument and prepare for and participate in musical performances.

Safety Patrols - Students in grades 4 and 5 are selected for the important role of School Safety Patrol. They support school, neighborhood, and bus safety on a daily basis.

Technology - Staff and students use technology to solve problems, enhance reading and math skills, explore the universe, and create multimedia productions.  Students also have access to multiple laptop carts and a Promethean board in every classroom.

Wee Deliver - With the support of the U.S. Post Office, we have our own postal system. Students and staff write letters to friends, siblings, and pen pals. Second and third grade postal workers sort and deliver the mail daily. Students apply for positions in the post office and jobs are changed every 9 weeks.

After School Programs -With the support of our PTA  and Kemp Mill staff, we hold a variety of after school activities with activity buses available two or three days a week. Activities for primary and upper grade students vary by semester based upon student interest and availability of instructors. Programs have included Drama, Cooking, Soccer, Garden, Science and Hiking Clubs. Parents are welcome to become involved!

STEM - In addition to Music, Art, and PE (Physical Education), students attend a STEM class once a week. STEM (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) allows students of all grades to participate in engaging hands-on lessons.
