6th Grade Summer Tours Flyer

Dear 5^th Grade Parents,

I hope that this email finds you and your families well.  First, congratulations on your student completing elementary school!  We hope that you and they are able to step back and reflect on all of the great experiences over the last 6 years.  Now it is on to bigger and better things! 

The transition from elementary to middle school can be a challenging one. Students are often nervous about the size of the buildings, the large number of students, transitioning from class to class, opening a locker, making new friends, and getting more homework.  The staff at Eastern Middle School are here to help.  We want to support you and your child to the greatest extent possible so that they can feel comfortable and part of our community from the first day of 6^th grade, through their 8^th grade promotion.  The 6^th grade team is led by the following staff members who are here to help.  Please feel free to reach out to any one of us with questions:

Summer Tours

In order to help students feel at home at Eastern as soon as possible, we will hold a series of two-hour tours during the summer months. These tours are FREE; however, no transportation will be provided. On the tour, students will have the opportunity to move about the halls to see the cafeteria, gymnasium, counseling office, main office, health room, and classrooms. Students will participate in team building activities in order to get to know new classmates and be able to practice opening lockers. A flyer containing dates, times, and sign-up instructions is attached to this email.

Summer Assignments

Eastern Middle School is asking all of its students to read and sharpen-up their math skills this summer! Schedules and New Student Orientation

Student schedules for the 2022-2023 school year will not be available until New Student Orientation, which is on Thursday August 25, 2022. Where Eastern provides and is in charge of Summer Tours, MCPS organizes the New Student Orientation and communication on that event will be available later on in the summer.

Supplies

Eastern Middle School does not have a list of required supplies; however, it is recommended students have pencils, pens, a 3-ring binder (at least 2 inches) split into 7 sections, and folders. Chromebooks issued to students for this past school year will be kept and used this upcoming school year.

Tours de Verano

Para ayudar a los estudiantes a sentirse como en casa en Eastern lo antes posible, realizaremos una serie de recorridos de dos horas durante los meses de verano. Estos tours son GRATIS; sin embargo, no se proporcionará transporte. En el recorrido, los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de moverse por los pasillos para ver la cafetería, el gimnasio, la oficina de consejería, la oficina principal, la sala de salud y las aulas. Los estudiantes participarán en actividades de formación de equipos para conocer a nuevos compañeros y poder practicar la apertura de casilleros. Se adjunta a este correo electrónico un folleto que contiene fechas, horas e instrucciones para registrarse.

Horarios y Orientación para Estudiantes Nuevos

Los horarios de los estudiantes para el año escolar 2022-2023 no estarán disponibles hasta la Orientación para estudiantes nuevos, que es el jueves 25 de agosto de 2022. Donde Eastern ofrece y está a cargo de los recorridos de verano, MCPS organiza la Orientación para estudiantes nuevos y la comunicación sobre ese evento se estará disponible más adelante en el verano.

Suministros

Eastern Middle School no tiene una lista de útiles necesarios; sin embargo, se recomienda que los estudiantes tengan lápices, bolígrafos, una carpeta de 3 anillos (al menos 2 pulgadas) dividida en 7 secciones y carpetas. Los Chromebooks entregados a los estudiantes durante el año escolar pasado se conservarán y utilizarán este próximo año escolar.
