Cell Phone Policy

BCMS CELL PHONE EXPECTATIONS

 BCMS Cell Phone Expectations:

  • Phones OUT of sight during the school day
  • Turned OFF during the school day
  • Earbuds/electronic devices put AWAY during the school day

Excerpt from MCPS Policy on Cell Phones and Personal Mobile Devices (PMD’s):

Students may possess PMDs on MCPS property and at MCPS-sponsored activities; however, students may not turn on/use PMDs until the end of the student day with the following exceptions:

  1. When a teacher, in grade 3 and above, has permitted such use for instructional purposes during instructional time.
  2. Students riding to or from school or school-sponsored activities on MCPS or commercially chartered buses may use PMDs as long as such use does not impact the safe operation of the bus and is compliant with this and other related MCPS regulations. Students must use earbuds during this time.
  3. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that PMDs are turned off and out of sight during times of unauthorized use. Students are responsible for ensuring their PMDs are managed securely at all times.

If a student is unable to comply with the BCMS School/County policy on cell phone usage the following will occur:

  •  1st Offense - Personal reminder to student to turn off device and to put OUT of sight.
  •  2nd Offense - Phone/PMD/Earbuds will be confiscated until the end of the school day. Parents will be notified.
  •  3rd Offense - Phone/PMD/Earbuds will be confiscated until parents come pick up the device. Phone will be locked up until parent or designee is able to come retrieve the device.
