Wednesday, November 12 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM:
Explore the possibilities! What can we do to protect the Earth now and going forward? This Maryland STEM Festival special event on careers and more opportunities, with and without a college degree, will feature Ana Arriaza, Partnership & Engagement Manager at Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection.
SSL hours available for helping at the event, including designing teen programs, cleanup, and takedown after the event!
Enjoy free snacks! Spanish speakers welcome! Open to middle & high school students and adults.
The Maryland STEM Festival is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics designed to advance STEM and STEAM education for children and teens that takes place every fall.

  • Friday, November 21: SMYAL's Zine Workshop - Come through and get creative! Learn how to make your own mini-magazine (also known as a zine) to share your art, stories, doodles, and big ideas. We’ll have all the supplies, just bring your imagination! No experience needed, just good vibes and self-expression.
    SSL hours available for helping at the event including designing teen programs, cleaning up and takedown after the event! Hosted with Young Playwrights' Theatre.
 
  • Friday, December 19: SMYAL's Friendship Mixer - Meet new people, play games, and vibe with folks in a fun, welcoming space! Whether you’re looking to make new friends or just hang out, this mixer is all about good energy, laughter, and making new connections.
 
Wednesday, November 26, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM:
  • Join us in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room! Bring your friends & cozy up with free snacks and teen comedy fantasy movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant!
  • You don't need to be familiar with Dungeons & Dragons to enjoy this movie to the fullest, though you'll love its team of unlikely heroes stealing an ancient and powerful relic even more if you do!
  • Interested in helping organize or participating in tabletop roleplaying game programs at the library? Come tell us and your peers, and we'll get started on brainstorming plans!
 
  • GMCW’s GenOUT Chorus is the DC area’s only vocal ensemble for LGBTQ+ and allied youth, ages 13-18. GenOUT’s mission is to give LGBTQ+ and allied youth a voice through song and to connect that voice to community. Now in its 12th season, this nationally recognized chorus rehearses Saturday mornings in the Dupont Circle neighborhood and performs around the area through June. The chorus will travel to Portland, OR in summer 2026 for a gathering of all six GALA youth choruses.

On Saturday, December 6, celebrate the holiday season with TWO amazing events from GenOUT Youth Chorus! No Registration!
  • Get inspired and enjoy GenOUT's open rehearsal from 10:45 AM - 12:45 PM in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room!
  • GenOUT will delight you from 1:30 - 2:00 PM with a cozy singalong performance in the 3rd Floor Lobby!
  • All ages are welcome, celebrate with friends and family!
