Black-Eyed Susan Nominees 2015-2016 | Media Center Homepage

The Black-Eyed Susan Book Award Program, named after Maryland's official state flower, is a program sponsored by the Maryland Association of School Librarians to encourage students to read quality, contemporary literature.

BES GraphicStudents who have read at least 3 of the books are eligible to vote for their favorite book in April. Votes from across the state are sent in to the Black-Eyed Susan committees and tallied to determine the winners. The winning authors and/or illustrators receive a pewter plate engraved with the year and the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award logo. Authors, illustrators and publishers recognize the award as an honor bestowed by Maryland students. Copies of the books are available at Walter Johnson's Media Center.
